Updates and Info from Dr. T
Farley Elementary School - January 23, 2026
Snow or no Snow?
This week at Farley Elementary is full of great moments and meaningful work! Students will be participating in our Kindness Challenge, spreading positivity throughout the building, while our FCA Meeting provides time for encouragement and fellowship. We also begin ACCESS for ELLs testing, and we appreciate everyone’s flexibility and support as we ensure a smooth testing environment for our students. To top it off, teachers will enjoy a well-deserved Duty-Free Lunch this week. And while we’re busy planning, we can’t help but quietly hope the forecast includes just enough snow to make things interesting — fingers crossed!

Kindess Challenge
Next week, January 26–30, our school will take part in The Great Kindness Challenge (TGKC)—a signature, week-long initiative designed to create a culture of compassion in PreK–12 schools around the world. Guided by the motto “Kindness Matters,” students will be encouraged to practice acts of kindness big and small. Smile! Show us your KIND! Families are invited to send in photos of their children showing kindness at school, at home, or in the community. We’ll proudly display these photos in our hallway to celebrate the caring hearts that make our school so special. Let’s come together and show what kindness looks like in our community!

Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence (BRSE)
You may have seen on social media or in recent posts that several D3 schools were awarded Blue Ribbon School of Excellence status, including Grissom and Challenger Elementary and Middle. The Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence (BRSE) process is a rigorous and rewarding journey, and one that Farley has aspired to pursue.
We are excited to share that Farley will officially begin the BRSE process in February. As part of this work, there will be opportunities for parent involvement through surveys and focus groups. Please be on the lookout for ways to share your voice and support our school as we move forward.
School Board Appreciation Month
If you see Mrs. Andrea Russell around South Huntsville, please take a moment and thank her for her service to Huntsville City Schools, and especially at Farley. Her advocacy has resulted in numerous projects at the school including our playground, painting and flooring refresh, and the new gym project that will begin in late Spring / Summer.
Paper Chase 5K
Interested in some family fun that could possibly earn money for our school? Join Farley Elementary's Paper Chase 5K team! The race is February 28th located in Downtown Huntsville. Paper Chase is sponsored by Free to Teach which is a great program that helps our teachers get the supplies they need during the school year! There are two race sign up options (one for teachers, staff, and students and one for non-school kids and adults). Register by January 31st for a T-shirt! **Registration ends February 25th**
Not an experienced runner or hate running? NO PROBLEM! This race is all about enjoying time out in downtown Huntsville with family and friends and walking is also allowed! Be sure to include Farley Elementary when picking to "Join a Team" on the registration page. If our school can get the most runners/walkers participating, we could win $1,500 for our library and technology needs!

Greetings families!
We are pleased to announce that our school received an "A" on our Report Card Score. This is the 3rd year in a row that Farley has received an A - this year a 90. Our Report Card score is based on our ACAP results (Grades 3-5) and our percentage of students that maintain excellent attendance.
Attendance
Parents may excuse only 8 days for the entire school year.
Parents - remember that excuse notes must be submitted promptly. The HCS expectation is that within 3 days, a parent or doctor's note is submitted to the school. After 8 excused absences (not individual notes), students must have a doctor's note. A student checked out before 11:30AM is considered absent unless they check back in.

Chronic Absenteeism is defined as a student missing 18 or more days for the school year (or 10% of enrolled days), regardless of reason.
