Principal's Note

This month, Elkhorn Public Schools will undergo an external review as part of our 5-year accreditation process. I am excited to share with this team a little about Sagewood's School Improvement Process. This includes an in-depth look at our school data and the building action plans we have created and implemented. Literacy and numeracy instruction continue to be our focus at both the district level and here at Sagewood. I am eager to hear the recommendations the team provides for Sagewood. I am confident that, as a building, we will be able to grow from their insights.

Please note that there will be no school for students November 27th-29th for Thanksgiving break. I hope the Sagewood families have a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday! I'm thankful for the opportunity to work alongside the Sagewood community. Your partnership in supporting our students is truly appreciated.

Your contribution will allow us to create a warm, festive atmosphere where our teachers and staff can relax, recharge, and feel appreciated for all that they do! Feel free to let us do the shopping by sending a venmo (@sagewood-pto). Any amount is appreciated! Click here for the sign up genius. Please drop off items to Kristin's home (4733 N 173rd) by Sunday, November 17th or to Patti in the school office by 8am on Monday, November 18th. Celebration of Giving Time!

Hello Sagewood Families,

With the holidays looming we hope you’ll consider helping an Elkhorn

family in need! Elkhorn Elementary Schools are partnering with Womenade of Elkhorn to sponsor a Gift Drive for families within the Elkhorn community. Last year this project helped serve over 125 families in our school district, and we hope to help even more this year.

Please visit Sagewood’s front office before and after school, from NOVEMBER 18-26, and choose a mitten listing an item you would like to purchase. Wrapped gifts, with the mitten attached to the outside, should be returned to school no later than THURSDAY, DECEMBER 4th at 3PM.

Please join us in making a difference in the lives of some Elkhorn families, and in making a lasting impression on our own children! Questions?

Please contact:

Patti Curry @ 402-289-9078 or pcurry@epsne.org

Traffic Reminders

Just a few reminders to help traffic flow smoothly and to keep our students and families safe!

  • If you park in the visitor parking lot, you must come up and pick up your student(s) using the crosswalk near the main entrance No parking along 177th St. This will allow the bus to have a space to park when they arrive. Please refer to the map below for parking guidelines.
  • We need all students to enter and exit vehicles along the entire curbside lane
  • Once the lane begins to move, please keep the line moving forward and close any gaps (including the visitor entrance on the north end of the building near the portables)
  • Always utilize the designated crosswalk. Students walking home must walk to the 4-way stop where safety patrol are located.

Lost & Found

We are overflowing! Please swing by and help our lost items find their way home! Lost and found is located in the hallway near the front office.

Party Invitations

Invitations to birthday parties and other events must be distributed away from the school grounds to students for out of school parties according to District policy.

Birthday Treat Guidelines

Birthdays are important milestones in each child’s life. At Sagewood Elementary, we look forward to sharing in the students’ excitement over their own special day. Each morning birthdays will be read over the announcements and students will be invited to come to the office for a birthday bag from the Principal. Summer birthdays will be announced on the student’s half birthday to ensure each student enjoys this special recognition during the school year.

If you would like to send a special treat or token for your child to pass out to classmates, please send only NON-EDIBLE tokens or treats to school. For example, your child could provide each student with a pencil. Classroom teachers may also offer other suggestions. This decision has been made with considerable thought given to healthy eating habits, food allergies, and convenience for parents. I appreciate your support as we create a healthy and welcoming environment for every student at Sagewood.

Classsroom Spotlight! Mrs. Fangman's Class

October was a fantastic month in Mrs. Fangman’s kindergarten class! We had a blast participating in the Sagewood Fun Run organized by our PTO. A highlight was our field trip to Schramm Park, where we learned about animal habitats, engineered a model of a beaver dam using sticks and mud, fed the fish in the pond, and explored the education center. In the classroom, students continue to work on their addition and subtraction skills with strategies using objects and drawings. As a bonus, we’re thrilled to have Elkhorn North Cadet Faith joining us each morning to assist with our learning!
