JLA Weekly Family Update
Week of September 21
Dear Joyful Learning Academy Families,
Thank you to all of our families who were able to join us, either virtually or in person, for Curriculum Night! We hope you walked away with a clearer understanding of what your scholar will be learning throughout the year and, most importantly, that JLA is a school where meaningful learning happens every day! Our youngest learners are building the academic, social-emotional, and foundational skills that will prepare them for continued success in school. Each teacher recorded their individual presentation, and those recordings will be shared with families by the end of the day Monday for anyone who was unable to attend or would like to revisit the information.
Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership and support. We look forward to another wonderful week of learning, growing, and making joyful memories together!
Warmly,
Tracy Clarke
Early Learning & School Readiness Coordinator

Looking Ahead
Our October calendar of events will be released in next week’s newsletter. We have lots of fun and exciting things planned for Team JLA, including Picture Day, Georgia Pre-K Week, and more! We can’t wait to share all that’s ahead! 💛
Small Moments, Big Learning
This Week’s Tip: Talk About Feelings ❤️
Young children are learning how to understand and express big feelings! Help your child build these important social-emotional skills by talking about emotions throughout the day. Name feelings as they happen, “You look excited!” or “It seems like you’re feeling frustrated” and encourage your child to tell you how they feel and why. You can also talk about how characters might be feeling while reading a book or watching a show. These small conversations help children build the words they need to understand themselves and others.
Remember: There are no “bad” feelings! Sad, angry, worried, excited, and happy feelings are all okay. The goal is to help children name what they feel, understand why they feel it, and learn healthy ways to respond.
Arrival & Dismissal
Weekly Reminders
As we head into another exciting week, here are a few reminders:
- Label Belongings: Please label all of your child's belongings, including jackets, lunch boxes, etc. This helps us return items to the correct student.
- Change of Clothes: Every student should have a labeled change of clothes at school in case of spills or accidents.
- Water Bottle: Please send your child with a labeled water bottle each day.
- Bookbags: Please make sure your child brings their bookbag to school every day. Each student's dismissal tag is attached to their bookbag, which helps us safely match students to the car rider tag displayed in your vehicle during dismissal.
- No Toys. Please keep personal toys at home unless specifically requested by your child’s teacher. This helps us prevent distractions and avoid lost or misplaced items.
- Communication: Remember to check your scholar's weekly folder, review the teacher & school newsletter and to check Parent Square regularly for updates and reminders.
