2026 Retirements
In case you missed it, BHS had a few retirements this year. On the last day of school, we said goodbye to four fantastic educators who gave everything they had to Brighton High School and its students.
While the roles they held may vary, they shared a common thread: a genuine heart for students and an unwavering dedication to making Brighton High School a better place than they found it.
We thank them for the difference have have made and the legacy they are leaving behind. We are grateful for their years of service, for all they have accomplished, and wish them nothing but happiness, health, and fulfillment in the next chapter of their lives.
Thank you to Mrs. Kenger (English), Dr. Knittle (Science), Mrs. Lane (Media Center), and Mrs. Parry (American Sign Language)! Congratulations on their well earned retirements!
Summer Office Hours - Please Note Adjusted Times
In case you need to stop by the office for anything this summer, we do have adjusted hours where the office is open and available for anything including pick ups of any needed items. The summer schedule is provided below. If you need something and these hours do not work for you, please reach out via email (evansm@brightonk12.com) and we will work with you to coordinate another option.
Between Now and Friday, August 7th:
- Monday through Thursday from 7 am to 3 pm
After Friday, August 7th:
- Monday through Friday from 7 am to 3 pm
Test Out Materials
If your student is planning on testing out of a course on August 12th and they signed up to do so, they should have already received an email to their school email address with the details about the test out and any study materials/resources. If there is a textbook for them to use as a study resource, it can be picked up during open office hours.
**For students testing out of health or PE, there are no materials to pick up. Study materials have been provided electronically.**
Honors/AP English Summer Reading Material Pick Up
Summer reading materials for the following classes can be picked up in the Main Office during open office hours (7 am to 3 pm, Monday through Thursday until August 7th, and Monday through Friday after August 7th):
Honors English 9 (Incoming Freshmen)
AP Seminar (Incoming Sophomores)
AP Language and Composition (Incoming Juniors)
AP Literature and Composition (Incoming Seniors)
Remaining Senior Yard Signs/Graduation Envelopes
We still have a handful of graduation envelopes and Senior yard signs (both the one with their picture on it as well as those purchased as part of the Senior All Night Party fundraiser) that were not picked up after the graduation ceremony this year. If your student did not pick up either one of these items, they do so during the open summer office hours. As a reminder, graduation envelopes contain a number of different items, including their actual diploma and a few other personal items for them.
7th St. Construction Project - Starting ASAP
There will be a major construction project taking place on/around 7th St. that will last through the summer and require you to enter the parking lot differently than you may normally. It is scheduled to start ASAP (construction barrels/signs are on site, but not put out yet) For those of you who are not aware, 7th St. is the road you turn onto in order to enter the parking lot in front of the school. This will impact you or your student if either of you will be at BHS for any reason over the summer. As a result, you will need to enter the parking lot via the light next to the football field. A press release including all of the details can be found here.
Make Up Exams
For students who have not yet made up exams from the 2nd Semester, there are no additional set times in order to be able to do so. Students need to coordinate this directly with their Grade Level Principal. Failure to make up any exams may result in your student earning a 0 on their exam.
*If your student made up any exams after school finished for the year, it is possible they will not be graded until teachers return in the fall. Grade changes would be processed at that point in time. We just want you to be aware of this fact as you are reviewing your student's 2nd Semester Report Card.
Feel free to share this information with your student if they missed an exam for any reason and have not yet made it up.
Make Up Attendance
**Failure to make up any required attendance time may result in your student earning a "No Credit" in any courses in which they are over the 9 allowable absences.**
Back to School Registration - Save the Date!
- Incoming Seniors - Monday, August 31st from 8 am to 11 am
- Incoming Juniors - Monday, August 31st from 12 pm to 3 pm
- Incoming Sophomores - Tuesday, September 1st from 8 am to 11 am
- Incoming Freshmen - Tuesday, September 1st from 12 pm to 3 pm (Club Fair will also be at this point in time)
Emails Deactivated (Seniors and Retirees)
As we prepare for the end of the year, there are a few important dates to share regarding when email addresses will be shut off for our Seniors as well as our staff who are retiring. We are telling students to please make sure they are backing up/downloading all files in advance of this deactivation if there is anything you would like to save. More information for each of these groups is provided below:
- Seniors - Email addresses will be deactivated on September 1st
- Retirees - Email addresses will be deactivated 30 days from the end of the school year in case your student needs to get ahold of them for any reason
Summer School Information - Registration Now Open!
Summer School Registration is now open! The registration form for this year's summer school program can be found here.
For more information on the 2026 Summer School Program, feel free to visit the Summer School Informational Page.

- Online Michigan Virtual Plus classes for new credit, taught by Michigan Virtual staff with a Brighton Area Schools Mentor and in-person computer lab support at Brighton High School
All students who successfully complete their summer classes will earn a letter grade. This grade will be reflected on the student's high school transcript and is figured into their GPA.
Students can take up to 2 classes. Administrative approval is required to take additional classes.
Fall Sports and Eligibility
Fall sports begin this year on Monday, August 10th! Tryout and 1st day of practice information can be found here.
*As a reminder, please complete all registration requirements in FinalForms and upload the one-page sports physical, signed and dated by the doctor on or after 4/15/26, by Friday, July 24, 2026. We only need the single page of the sports physical that is signed and dated by the doctor, please do not upload additional documents for review.*
Additional information can be found at https://godogs.org/
**Athletics Eligibility**
Remember that in order to be immediately eligible for fall sports, student athletes must have passed all 6 classes during the 2nd Semester with a minimum grade point average for the semester of 1.665. If they do not meet this requirement, they may need to take summer school or run the risk of being academically ineligible to start the season.
Athletic Department Hiring Student Staff
The Athletic Department is hiring student staff for the 2026-2027 school year. Student staff offer competitive wages and flexible hours. Work includes: setting up for events, working during events and tearing down after the events. You do not need to play a sport to work for athletics! Applications and work permits are available outside of the Athletic Office.

Prospective New Families Newsletter
You may or may not be aware, but the enrollment and school of choice windows are now open for the 2026-27 school year! It is important to keep our enrollment steady, or even increasing to allow us to maximize our offerings for our students and set them up for future success. If you know of anyone who will be new to BHS next year or who may be considering BHS as an option for enrollment next year, we have an excellent resource you can share with them. It is provided below. Also, feel free to connect them with us if they have any questions or are looking to set up an opportunity to tour the building!
Senior Specific Information
Graduation Pictures
Hello Graduates and Families!
The QR code that is attached will help you and your family receive your portraits easier and more efficiently. You must scan the QR registration code. Register by filling out all the information fields. It will ask for you/your student’s name, email address (please put a personal email, not a school email), phone number, and home address.
By providing this information, we will send a proof of any professional portraits we take, e.g.: when you cross the stage, formal portraits, along with any other portraits taken of you before, during, and after the ceremony. After filling out all of the information, it will ask to provide a selfie. We use this selfie of you/your student as a reference photo to match all of the portraits we take of you/your student. You can either take a selfie as you are filling out the form, or you can upload a selfie as long as it matches the guidelines. It is extremely important that there is NO ONE in the selfie other than you/your student.
An example of what the selfie is supposed to look like will be provided during registration. When you see the registration code appear, this means you are registered. Save this for future use.
Congratulations, Class of 2026!
Thank you!

LACASA Summer Volunteer Opportunities
LACASA would love to have our students volunteer with them this summer. LACASA Collection, a charity resale boutique, has a particular need for assistance with processing and sorting donations, preparing items for the resale, and even photographing items for their eBay store. No experience is required and they’re happy to provide documentation for NHS, scouting, or whatever a student may need. It’s a great setting for either individuals or groups looking to volunteer together. More information, including contact information can be found here.
