Washington Elementary School 🐾

October 30, 2026
It is hard to believe we are already at the end of October! It was an all-around wonderful week at Washington, with excitement in the air as we look forward to Halloween. Across all grade levels, learning continues to build week by week as students explore new content, develop new skills, and make meaningful connections by applying their learning across subject areas. We are also beginning to hear the sounds of the season as students practice for our upcoming Thanksgiving Sing-Along! This past Wednesday and Thursday, our fifth graders enjoyed their annual overnight adventure at Fairview Lake - a wonderful two days filled with exploration, adventure, and friendship. Be sure to visit the fifth-grade section of this newsletter for more details!
Looking ahead, please remember that we have early dismissal days Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (11/2, 11/3, and 11/4), followed by school closures on Thursday and Friday (11/5 and 11/6). Parent-teacher conferences will take place next Monday and Tuesday afternoons. In the meantime, enjoy this week's photo gallery and be sure to visit our Live Feed and News to see more of what we've been up to.
Have a wonderful weekend! 💙

Student Assessment Reports Coming to the Genesis Parent Portal
Families will soon be able to access Individual Student Reports in the Genesis Parent Portal. i-Ready and DIBELS reports will be available on Friday, October 30, and NJSLA reports will be available on Wednesday, November 4. These reports provide information about your child’s academic performance and support conversations with teachers about progress and learning needs.
i-Ready and DIBELS are screening assessments administered at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year to monitor student growth over time. In our district, students in grades 3–8 take i-Ready, while students in kindergarten through grade 5 take DIBELS, which focuses on foundational reading skills. Results help teachers identify students’ strengths, plan instruction, and determine where additional support may be needed.
The New Jersey Student Learning Assessments (NJSLA) are administered each spring to measure students’ progress toward New Jersey’s academic standards. English language arts assessments are administered in grades 3–9, while mathematics assessments are administered in grades 3–8 and in designated high school mathematics courses. Students in grades 5, 8, and 11 also participate in the science assessment.
We encourage families to review their child’s reports once they become available. Assessment results offer one perspective on student learning and should be considered alongside classroom performance, teacher observations, and daily work. If you have questions about your child’s results or how to support learning at home, please contact your child’s teacher.
