A Message From the Principal
Hello families,
Today is a truly wonderful day at Weaver as our students, staff, and families are participating in the Color Run. Thank you for your generous support. This is our main fundraiser of the year and the funds raised will help cover all the wonderful STEM activities for our students. We truly appreciate your support, not only for all our fundraising activities but also for our daily work in the classrooms.
Every day, we see students helping their classmates in the classroom, on the playground, and on the buses. It is heartwarming to watch them: giving a hug to a friend who is not feeling well, helping another find something, or patiently explaining directions. It is inspiring to think that our caring and loving young children are the adults of the future. Thank you for entrusting us to work with your wonderful children.
Our students continue participating in enrichment projects, including field trips and engaging with community experts such as the Raptor Center, Science from Scientists, and The Science Crew. Our students demonstrate outstanding STEM identities and embody the Weaver Way expectations every time we leave the building or work with a community expert. This month, we also had our first assembly of the year, and our students did an amazing job singing the school song. Indeed, Every day is a Weaver Way Day at our school.
As the weather is changing and more students are wearing sweaters and jackets, please label them with your child’s name. This simple step helps significantly reduce the large number of items in the lost and found. Painter's tape works well if you do not want to permanently mark their clothing.
Thank you again for your support and dedication to your children and our school.
Sincerely,
Ronald

Building Thinking Classrooms Grant
This past spring, Weaver Lake was awarded a grant to purchase materials to use in implementing Building Thinking Classrooms. This is a set of "14 teaching practices that research shows optimize conditions for students to think, which increases their engagement and learning". It was specifically developed for math, but is applicable to many areas of learning. The District 279 Foundation generously funded a grant for dry erase markers, erasers, and class sets of chart-size whiteboards that are being used by seventeen staff members in their classrooms. Watch for more about this exciting way of getting students up and working together to share their thinking about math!
How To Request a Donated Weaver Wear Item:
We have received many donated items from our Weaver Lake community this year. If you would like to request for your student(s) to receive a donated Weaver Wear item, please reach out to Rebecca Schlegel, Weaver Lake Elementary School Social Worker, at SchlegelR@district279.org. Rebecca maintains the stock of donated items and makes sure every item can find a new home. She’ll work with you to find the right size and style so that your students can rock their new Weaver Wear around the halls!
