Reporting and Learning Conferences for Term 3:

Below is a video that has been updated for Term 3 which explains the reporting process in more detail. if you are unsure about what the new progress descriptors mean (Emerging, Developing, Consolidating, Proficient and Exceeding) please watch. An email has been sent to all parents to book your learning conference on the 16th or 17th of September, please book a time ASAP we aim to meet with 100% of parents/caregivers.

P5 Parking Changed to P10 on Fifth Avenue

We are pleased to share that Tauranga City Council has changed the time limit for the drop-off and pick-up spaces on Fifth Avenue from five minutes to ten minutes.

We are grateful for the Council’s positive response after we approached them to consider this change. The new P10 signs are already in place.

Safe Travel to and from School:

Please help us keep all children safe and reduce congestion around the school:

  • Never stop on yellow lines, double-park or call children across the road.
  • Use the kerbside door when children enter or leave your vehicle.
  • Always use safe crossing points and follow the directions of our road patrollers.
  • On wet days, allow extra time, be patient and expect to park further away.
  • Consider walking, cycling, scootering, or parking further away and walking part of the distance. The Memorial Park car park is a good option for parking, with a short walk up to the school.

Our staggered finish times are aimed to help ease congestion around the school. Junior students finish at 2.50 pm. We ask junior team families to collect them and leave promptly, freeing spaces for Middle and Senior families collecting children at 3.00 pm.

Children are supervised until 3.10 pm. After 3.10 pm, supervision is available through Schools Out, our onsite before and after school care programme.

Choose safety over convenience— help us protect all our children.

2027 Class Placements

Deciding class placements for the new school year is a complex and carefully considered process. We take into account the number of children at each year level, our allocated staffing, individual learning needs, gender balance, social development and peer relationships. Our priority is to ensure that the needs of all learners receive fair and thoughtful consideration. Where necessary, staff will discuss a child’s placement directly with their parents or caregivers.

FYI: At this stage, we expect most Year 5 students to remain in their current learning hub for 2027.

As part of our normal annual staffing process, one or two teachers may move to a different class or year level. These changes support career progression, professional growth and the needs of the school.

We ask families to trust our professional judgement as we work to place every child fairly. However, we welcome information about specific or exceptional circumstances that we may not already be aware of. As it is not possible for senior leaders to meet individually with all parents about placement preferences, any relevant information must be provided in writing and emailed to me by the end of Week 2, Term 4 — Friday 23 October.

If there has been a previous issue that we should reconsider, please email me or speak with your child’s current teacher, as not all information is automatically carried forward from year to year.

Please note that we cannot accommodate requests for particular teachers or friendship groups. Only written information relating to specific learning, wellbeing or social needs will be considered.

A warm welcome to Pamodi and Subhavi Amarasingha, Wren-Tavake Marters, Lucas Rea, Emma Mateu Amarelle, Milla Watson, Maneth Yapage and Charlotte Ingle-Kennerley. It is great to have you and your families join our TPS team.

Thank you for your ongoing support of our school and community.

Maths Practice Tool - Years 3-8 Maths Practice Tool - Years 3-8

Messaging

  • An Interactive Maths practice tool for students in Years 3 to 8 is available on the Parent Portal.
    Maths practice (education.govt.nz)
  • The practice tool content supports the New Zealand Curriculum and includes content covering number problems, working with money, counting, multiplying and dividing, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, powers, and roots.
  • Students can practise in English, to help reinforce what they've learnt at school.
  • Short, regular sessions will help students build confidence with Maths. This can be 10 to 15 minutes sessions, 3 to 5 times a week.
  • You don’t need to be a Maths expert to support your child's learning.
  • Just by spending a few minutes together throughout the week, encouraging effort, and celebrating progress, you can help build confidence and the skills children need to thrive in Maths.
  • The practice tool website has been developed following feedback from parents and whānau that they wanted practical ways to support learning at home.

Healthy lunches Healthy lunches

A balanced lunch helps children stay focused, learn well and have the energy they need for a busy school day.

We encourage families to include:

  • 🍎 Fresh or dried fruit and vegetables
  • 🥪 Sandwiches, wraps or other filling foods
  • 🥛 Water as the main drink
  • 🧀 Healthy snacks such as yoghurt, cheese or crackers

Please try to limit foods that are high in sugar such as cakes and biscuits.

We understand that every family is different, and we appreciate your support in helping our children develop healthy eating habits for life.

Thank you for helping us create a healthy and positive environment for all our students. 💚

Mobile Dental Unit Visit - Term 3 Mobile Dental Unit Visit - Term 3

The mobile dental unit will be onsite at TPS from Monday 20th July to Friday 25th September

Our dental team will be seeing the most overdue tamariki/children during this visit. As the clinic will be prioritising all their appointments, it may not be possible for the dental staff to see all students during this visit.

Our dental team will notify the whanau and families prior to their tamariki/child’s dental appointment.

When you receive this notification, please contact the team to update any contact details, confirm medical details or renew permissions for examination and dental x-rays.

Current service demands and delays weigh heavily on our teams and your kindness and support is appreciated.

If you have any queries or urgent dental concerns, contact 07 578 3070 or 0800 TALK TEETH for further help and advice.

The Friends of the School are a group of parents who wish to contribute their time to support our school. We meet twice a term on a Tuesday (5:30pm - 6:30pm in the staffroom) to coordinate and plan events. Our next meeting is in Term 4 on the 20th October.

You may not be able to attend meetings, but are keen to help out. For example: supervising the House Leaders sell ice blocks on a Friday after school (commitment is 2:40 - 3:20pm) or maybe you could pick up the ice block order from Pak n Save? Perhaps you can help decorate the hall for the school disco? Help set up or pack down after the Disco?

Help organise pizzas (time commitment is 12:20 - 1:00pm).

Many hands make light work and we would love some more parents to join and contribute.

Why Join the FOTS?

  • Flexible involvement - help only when you're available.
  • Meet greet people and be part of our school community.
  • Make a real impact on the school facilities our kids will use everyday. Past projects have been refurbishing each of the four school playgrounds, creating the second sandpit on the junior site and providing gift vouchers for the end of year assemblies.

What are we fundraising for?

  • To contribute to create a covered outdoor (all weather) space - useful for wet days, outdoor assemblies in summer, pōhiri and an additional shady spot for students to play in.

Register your interest at the school office or email Catherine and the FOTS team at fots@tauranga.school.nz

We would love some donations of tissues for our classrooms.

With all the colds and flus going around and children with runny noses, coughs and colds, we are going through lots of tissues so if you could drop one or two boxes off to your child's classroom that would be most appreciated.
