What an Amazing Week!!
Though it was a shorter four-day week for students, it was packed with exciting activities! Highlights included a Unified Soccer Tournament, reconnecting with familiar faces, and hands-on learning centered around—you guessed it—apples!
On Friday, teachers spent the professional development day focused on strengthening student success. In the morning, we outlined exemplary ways to support students throughout their educational journey in the RRC program. In the afternoon, alongside our special education colleagues, we worked with Sam Drazin from Changing Perspectives to explore innovative, practical strategies for fostering student independence.
Unified Soccer Tournament
On Tuesday, our Unified Soccer Team brought home the Division I state championship gold medal from their state tournament. All of their hard work and dedication throughout the season paid off in a big way. Returning home feeling on top of the world, the team enjoyed an enthusiastic, EMS-escorted parade back to campus, where the Hartford High School student body turned out in full force to cheer on their returning champions.
More Apples!
This fall, apple-themed learning has truly been the gift that keeps on giving! What began with apple picking quickly expanded into cooking, STEM tower-building challenges, and meaningful discussions on inclusion and belonging. This week, students picked apples once again—this time exploring history and mechanics hands-on by using a traditional apple press to make fresh cider.
Welcome Back, Sonya
RRC Visitors!!!
This week the students had the opportunity to connect with 2 former RRC staff members, Julie and Charmain. Julie is a former speech and language pathologist and she provided the cider press and opportunity to make cider. Charmain is a special educator who moved to California. The students and staff enjoyed reconnecting with these adults.
