A Message from our Principal A Message from our Principal

Dear Families,

Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful summer filled with rest, fun, and memorable moments with family and friends. As we begin this new school year, I am excited to see our hallways full of energy, curiosity, and the bright smiles of our students.

The start of a new year is a fresh beginningโ€”a chance to set goals, build routines, and commit to habits that will lead to success. Good habits start now. Arriving on time, staying organized, completing homework, reading daily, and being respectful and responsible are all small steps that build toward a strong and successful year. Parents, your support at home in reinforcing these routines makes all the difference.

Our teachers and staff are ready to provide engaging learning experiences and a safe, welcoming environment for every student. Together, we can help each child reach their fullest potential.

Letโ€™s make this school year one of growth, learning, and achievement. I look forward to celebrating many successes together in the months ahead.

Mr. Caprio

Cell Phone Policy ๐Ÿ“ฑ Cell Phone Policy ๐Ÿ“ฑ

Starting in the 2025-2026 school year, New York State has now implemented a Bellโ€‘toโ€‘Bell cell phone ban, from the moment school starts until dismissal. According to regulations students must turn off and store away any personal internetโ€‘enabled devicesโ€”such as smartphones, smartwatches, tablets, and earbudsโ€”on school grounds during school hours. In Akron Central Schools, we will require these devices are off in student lockers. This includes all instructional and nonโ€‘instructional times: class, lunch, recess, passing periods, and study halls.

โœจ Character Counts! ๐ŸŽ‰ โœจ Character Counts! ๐ŸŽ‰

What is it?

At Akron Middle School, we believe that building strong character is just as important as academic success. Thatโ€™s why we are excited to continue our Character Counts program this year!

Each month, our school will focus on one positive character traitโ€”such as respect, responsibility, kindness, fairness, citizenship, or trustworthiness. Throughout the month, students will be encouraged to practice and model this trait both inside and outside the classroom.

To celebrate, students can earn Tiger Tickets whenever they demonstrate the featured character trait. These tickets serve as a recognition of their efforts and commitment to making our school community a better place.

At the end of each month, teachers will also nominate students who have consistently shown the monthly trait. These nominated students will be honored with a special reward surpriseโ€”a fun way to highlight and celebrate their leadership in character!

Through Character Counts, we aim to create a culture where students feel proud of their choices and understand the lasting value of strong character.

What are Tiger Tickets?

Tiger Tickets can be earned from teachers in their classroom, faculty and staff by demonstrating the character counts traits or good behavior. With these tickets students can:

  • Purchase rewards from teachers
  • Purchase Akron T-shirts from the main office
  • Put Tiger Tickets into a drawing to win a gift card
