The Nanuet News
April 2026
Letter from the Superintendent
Dear Nanuet Families and Community,
Welcome to our April edition of the Nanuet News! This month, we’re featuring Family Math Night at Miller and Highview Elementary School, where mathematics takes center stage for students and families. Led by our mathematics teachers Jess Keaveny and Mindy Sklar, and joined by teachers from across the grade levels, Family Math Night was a huge success, with hundreds of family members learning and having fun alongside their children.
We hope you enjoy the many photos in our newsletter, which capture the magical moments that occur in our schools every day. Nanuet is blessed with wonderful teachers, families and, most of all, children who bring their best selves to our schools each day. Spring is filled with fun events both in school and out. We are excited to debut our first Grade 5 after-school intramural program, and we encourage our community to come out to support our many spring athletic teams.
In the coming days, you can expect to find our Annual Budget Newsletter in your mailbox. Please take a few minutes to review the details of this year’s budget and trustee election scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. And please remember to vote!
Sincerely,
Lisa Brady, Ed.D.
Superintendent
Golden Spotlight
Who says math can’t be fun? In this month’s Golden Spotlight, we head to George W. Miller Elementary School and Highview Elementary School, where students and their families came together last month for Math Night.
School Budget Vote
Mark your calendars! The 2026-2027 budget vote and board election will be held on Tuesday, May 19, from 7a.m.-9p.m. in the Nanuet Senior High School gym.
Music Showcase
Spring is the perfect time to celebrate the joy and opportunities music brings to education! This month, the band, orchestra and concert choir from A. MacArthur Barr Middle School visited Highview for a lively performance intended to spark excitement and inspire third- and fourth-grade students as they look ahead to joining the music program at Barr. DECA
Congratulations to our DECA students for an amazing showing at the 2026 DECA International Career Development Conference (ICDC) held earlier this month in Atlanta. The team of Brian Guan, Emma Ng, and Tarun Ravesanker took home third place overall in Franchise Business Plan! Click here for photos and more on the conference.
National Honor Society
Sixty-nine students from Nanuet Senior High School were inducted into the National Honor Society yesterday evening. To be eligible, candidates must complete five semesters, maintain a cumulative average of 91.5 or higher, and demonstrate the four pillars of NHS: scholarship, character, leadership and service. See photos in our Instagram post.
World Read Aloud Day
“This is about spreading the love of literacy.” Barr hosted its 29th annual Read Aloud this month. Elected officials, first responders, district administrators, board members, students and local leaders came together to read to students and share pieces of their personal stories, including why reading has been so meaningful in their lives. Resilience
“Resilience means being able to bounce back and keep going when life gets hard, something goes wrong or you face a challenge.” Barr students are ready to meet the fourth quarter with a resilient mindset. During quarterly PBIS kickoff assemblies held this month, assistant social worker Rich Rene and teacher Erik Allen stressed the importance of never backing down in the face of adversity, both in and out of school. Be the Best Version of Yourself
At Highview Elementary, students strive everyday to be the best versions of themselves. Enjoy this video, which led off the school's Board of Education presentation earlier this month.
West Point Brass Quintet
Highview students and staff enjoyed the music of the West Point Band Brass Quintet earlier this month. The performance was organized by Nanuet music director Mark Skaba and band teacher Walter Miller to expand upon what student musicians are learning in the classroom. Check out our Facebook post to read about the event, see pictures and hear highlights of the performance.
Little Hands, Big Hearts, Serving Smiles
Instrument Museum
Guitars, maracas and drums—dozens of handcrafted instruments—were on display throughout George W. Miller Elementary School’s first grade yesterday. The collection was part of the class’s annual museum walk, bringing students and their families together to celebrate their creative accomplishments. Check out our Facebook post for photos.
Welcome to Miller!
The Board of Education meeting on April 14 included a presentation updating the goals and priorities of George W. Miller Elementary School for the current school year. As an introduction, several Miller students shared a video highlighting what the start of their school day looks like.
