Drop Off and Pick Up
Thank you parents for being patient, as you pick up your children. As a reminder, we have a lot more parents picking up and more students walking home after school. We want to ensure that everyone remains safe by being patient, following the law, listening to street signs and following the direction of the SISD Police Officers and Eastlake MS Monitors and Administration. Please also remind your children to use crosswalks, when crossing the street. Students that have scooters may bring them but cannot be riding on our school's sidewalks because they have significant speed and can run over other students or parents. They have to walk them in and wear helmets. If students don't follow these rules, we will have to ban the scooters again. Lastly, we have a crosswalk right in front of our school on Bob Hope. Many cars are turning around in that area. Please be safe and refrain from doing a u-turn in our school zone. This poses a safety hazard for our pedestrians. You are all much appreciated.
Lunch Applications
Please complete your lunch application at your earliest convenience. We are still pending 48 applications. Free and Reduced Status will qualify for free lunch.

SEL - CKH October's Leadworthy Character Trait: Self-Direct
What does it mean to Self-Direct?
Self-Direction is the ability and learned skill to cast a vision of future goals and then take intentional steps toward who, where, and what we want to be. Instead of focusing on things to control or avoid, we emphasize our responsibility to make positive choices related to our emotions, attitudes, and actions.
Why focus on Self-Direction?
- Self-Direction strengthens relationships. Self-Direction helps to grow social skills and develop meaningful, positive relationships with others.
- Self-Direction teaches personal responsibility. Learning to Self-Direct teaches students to take responsibility for their own actions.
- Self-Direction helps us to regulate emotions: Self-Direction empowers students to regulate their impulses and emotional responses to situations and circumstances in their life.
Self-Direction in Action:
- Practice goal setting and action planning. When we establish goals and develop action plans, we learn to take intentional steps to successfully achieve goals.
- Monitor and adjust. Provide students with regular feedback and opportunities to self-assess progress toward goals to make adjustments and improvements in their behaviors.
- Reflect and evaluate. Facilitate discussions and reflection to prompt students to examine what they do, think, and say against their goals and vision for their life and learning.

Shoutout
Congratulations to our Raven Counseling Department for earning our campus a Silver Award with a perfect score, Momentum!! This evidence of work was submitted last school year under the direction of our counselors Mrs. Martinez and Mrs. Armendariz. As you know, Mrs. Armendariz retired, but Ms. Olivas will continue to carry out our Comprehensive Counseling Program, alongside Mrs. Martinez.
The award celebrates the progress, dedication, and meaningful work demonstrated within our comprehensive school counseling program.
Level is based on the overall score:
• Silver I – Foundation: 0–22 points
• Silver II – Growth: 23–45 points
• Silver III – Momentum: 46–68 points
A perfect score is commendable and a testament to their hard work and dedication to our Raven Community. Congratulations to Mrs. Armendariz and Mrs. Martinez on this incredible achievement!

October Counseling Lessons: Bullying Prevention and Cyber Safety
During the month of October, the Counseling Department will provide state-mandated lessons on Bullying Prevention and Cyber Safety to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. Parent permission for participation was obtained during the student registration process.
These age-appropriate lessons are designed to help students recognize, prevent, and respond to bullying behaviors, both in person and online. Students will learn about the different forms of bullying, the impact bullying can have on individuals and school climate, strategies for standing up safely to bullying, and the importance of reporting concerns to trusted adults.
In addition, students will develop an understanding of online safety, learn to practice respectful online communication, and make safe choices when using technology and social media.
The goal of these lessons is to empower students to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive school community while developing the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the digital world responsibly. Through these lessons, the Counseling Department remains committed to supporting the safety, well-being, and success of all students.

Immunization Requirements
As our Raven Scholars return to school, it is very important that parents ensure that their child’s immunizations are up to date. School required immunizations reduce the risk of diseases that can be prevented by vaccines. If your child is not up to date with their immunizations, now is the time to take them to their primary physician or clinic such as Immunize El Paso who has started the Vax2School Initiative for the new school year. Please visit immunizeelpaso.org for further information on their locations and hours. For more information on the minimum immunization requirements in Texas schools, please visit the Texas Department of State Health Services at https://www.dshs.texas.gov/immunize/school/default.shtm
Health Prevention Reminders
Encourage frequent handwashing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially before eating and after using the restroom. Soap and water are more effective than hand sanitizer against some viruses that cause gastrointestinal illness.
Use hand sanitizer when soap and water are not readily available
Discourage sharing of food, drinks, eating utensils, and water bottles.
Reinforce proper respiratory etiquette by encouraging students and staff to cover coughs and sneezes, dispose of tissues properly, and wash their hands afterward.
In accordance with Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) exclusion guidelines, students experiencing vomiting or diarrhea may return to school once they have been symptom-free for at least 24 hours without the use of medication.
