Principal's Message
Dear Challenger Families,
What a wonderful first week we have had together! I have been so amazed at how quickly our students jumped back into routines! It feels like they never even left. Walking through the classrooms and hallways this week has filled my heart with so much joy.
I’d love for you to join us at Parent Information Night on August 26th:
-
Pre-K, Kinder and 1st Grade parents will meet at 5:00 PM
-
2nd, 3rd, and 4th Grade parents will meet at 5:30 PM
This evening is all about connection, spending time in your child’s homeroom, getting to know their teacher, and learning more about the wonderful things happening each day.
We also have so many ways for you to be part of our Ride family this year:
Watch D.O.G.S. Program is a fun opportunity for dads to spend time on campus and make special memories with their child.
Grandparents' Day is a beautiful chance for grandparents to come share lunch. Please sign up on the link below so we can have tags ready and make the day extra special. Grandparents will enter through the bus ramp.
4th Grade Opportunities include Robotics, Ambassadors, and Newspaper for our student leaders to shine.
Destination Imagination (DI) is open to students in Kindergarten through 4th grade and is such a creative, team-building experience.
If you have any gently used tricycles, riding cars, or playhouses, our Pre-K playground would love to give them a new home. Donations can be dropped off in the front office.
Thank you for filling our school with so much love, encouragement, and support. Ride is truly a family, and I am so grateful for each of you.
With love and gratitude,
Laura Collins

Arrival/Dismissal Reminders
- Students can enter the building at 7:30 and will be dismissed at 3:10 (First 2 weeks - we are practicing routines - dismissal at 3:00)
- Cell phone use is prohibited in all school zones based on state law (House Bill 347).
- Please pull your car up close to the numbered sign, so all 10 cars fit in the driveway.
- Students must buckle & unbuckle on their own.
- Staff may only load students into the back seat of their vehicle.
- If a staff member isn’t available at arrival, then your child may exit the vehicle independently.
- Change of dismissal should be communicated to the front office no later than 2:00 pm.
- For everyone’s safety, students will remain in the car rider student line throughout dismissal. We cannot change a form of transportation during dismissal. Parents who approach the car line on foot will be asked to return to their car and be redirected to the end of the car rider line.
- Please, no early check outs after 2:00.
- Please have your dismissal sign visible as you enter the line. This helps expedite the car rider line.
- If you forget your sign, present your ID for verification with the front office.
- If you need a new pick-up sign, please see the link in the weekly newsletter to request one.
- Our main goal is to get everyone to and from school safely and efficiently.
- Please help us by honoring the guidelines above. We appreciate your support to keep everyone safe!
Walkers
East Walkers - Located in Ridgewood Park
K - 2 Parents: K-2 students will be released when a parent is present with an orange dismissal sign . Parents, please form a line along the basketball court holding your sign. The duty teacher will stand on the basketball court and call names in the order parents arrive. Students will then be released from dismissal rooms to meet parents. If parents would like a K-2 sibling to be released with a 3rd or 4th grade sibling, please send an email to lscollins@conroeisd.net to get approve a "Fast Pass" dismissal.
Grade 3-4 Parents: Unless a parent notifies the school of another preference, 3rd and 4th grade students will be dismissed without a parent present at 3:10.
To ensure your child's safety, please talk with your child about where to look for you in the park and reassure them that if they don't see you, they should return to the teacher on duty.
Thank you for your help to ensure dismissal is safe and efficient!
West Walkers - Located near West Panther Creek
- PK and K parents line up to the right of the gate and hold up their sign.
- 1st - 4th grade parents will line up to the left of the gate and hold up their sign.
- If a parent is missing a sign, they will be directed to the front office to get a new one and will need to be cleared for pickup.
- PK students are not allowed to be walkers unless they are zoned as a Ride PK student. All others will need to be car riders or bus riders.
- PK and K students line up inside of the gate but cannot be dismissed until the 3:10 bell rings and a parent is there to pick them up. Students in Grades 1 - 4 are lined up inside the school and will be dismissed at the 3:10 bell once a parent is there to pick them up.

All transportation changes must be received by 2:00 p.m. Please send all changes of transportation to ridetransportation@conroeisd.net. The e-mail must include the date, your child’s full name, homeroom teacher, bus number (if applicable), and the guardian's full name. All emails must be received before 2:00 p.m. If you submit a transportation change by email, it must go to the email address referenced above; transportation changes should not be emailed directly to the teacher. If an emergency arises, please contact 281-465-2800.
Please send a new email for each day the change occurs. We cannot accept notes for multiple days or with multiple changes. District policy states that a student may only ride the bus they are registered to ride; therefore, students may not have a transportation change to ride a different bus.

Destination Imagination
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are excited to announce that Destination Imagination (DI) sign-ups are now open for Kindergarten through 4th grade students! This creative problem-solving program runs from October through the end of February, with a final competition at the end of February. Students selected for a team must be committed to participating through the end of the season and attending the competition.
Before placement, teachers will provide input regarding each student’s behavior, cooperation, and communication skills to ensure a positive group experience. Teams will meet weekly at school, and additional meetings may be scheduled as needed. Each team will require two parent volunteers to help lead, while a teacher will be present to provide support. Families will be notified if their student is selected to participate on a DI team at Sally K. Ride.
If your child is interested in applying, please email celewis@conroeisd.net to request a short survey to be sent to you so that we can gather more information on your child’s interests. Students who have been in the program will be given first priority. Please submit your child’s name to be on or before September 12th at 3:30.
Thank you for supporting this exciting opportunity for our students. We look forward to another fun and successful year of Destination Imagination!
Sincerely,
Christy Lewis, 2nd Grade Teacher

SCHOOL HOURS/ATTENDANCE/TARDY POLICY
School hours are 7:55 a.m. - 3:10 p.m. Students must be in their classroom before the 7:55 a.m. bell rings, or they will be considered tardy. Please note that 7:30 a.m. is the earliest time that your child may be dropped off. We do not have staff available to supervise students until that time.
Attendance is vitally important to your child’s current educational growth and future development. Research confirms that attendance is one of the greatest factors contributing to student achievement. Please note that if your child comes in after 9:00 a.m., it will count as an absence unless your child has a medical appointment and brings in a school excuse from the doctor.
Tardy Policy
A student is tardy if not in the classroom at 7:55 a.m. If your child is tardy, parents must sign him/her in at the front office. When a student is tardy, an e-mail will be sent to the student’s guardian for notification.

BIRTHDAY TREAT GUIDELINES
We love celebrating birthdays at school and welcome birthday treats! To ensure the safety and well-being of all students, we ask that families follow the guidelines outlined in the graphic below. These guidelines help us manage allergies, classroom time, and school policies. Thank you for helping us make birthday celebrations safe and enjoyable for everyone!
LUNCH VISITOR INFORMATION

**Please limit the number of visitors to no more than two.
**Students may enjoy lunch with their parents/family only; please do not invite other students to eat lunch with your family.
**Please keep students and other children at the tables with you; do not allow them to run or play during lunch time.
NEW FOR 2025:
**We want to ensure the safety and security of everyone as they enjoy time together while visiting at lunch. If a grandparent or other family member wants to visit your child during lunch, the parent must send in written permission to the front office. The note will only need to be sent in once per school year, and at that time a notation will be made in the visitor system so that the school will have a record of the permission being granted. If a note is not sent, we will call a parent to grant permission before the visitor is allowed to join a student for lunch. Notes can be sent to: cvanloh@conroeisd.net
