Alexander School Newsletter

📣 From the Principal's Desk
Families,
This week, we will be venturing off into the second quarter of the school year. Can you believe it? The school year is surely flying by. Report cards will be going home soon, but remember, you have access your your child's records in real time! We have 2 more percent of parents logging in to the Student Progress Center! We are up to 38.01% of parents logging in!
As a campus, that means 62% of parents still aren't registered to use the Student Progress Center to monitor their child's attendance, grades, discipline, and more. Of the 38% of parents who are registered, 13% of them logged in to view their child's account. This is a direct access point to your child's up to date grades and information. Please register, log in, and stay informed.
- If you don't have access, email Giselle.Miller@jpschools.org or Ethel.Ruiz@jpschools.org to request your student specific access code.
- If you DO have access, log in and celebrate your student's academic success and set goals for the school year. We would love to hear them!
Reminder:
We have a few online instructional platform goals that you can help your child meet! We will be giving out prizes at random for students meeting the following goals:
- 3 lessons per week on Zearn (Kinder-8th grade)
- 45 minutes per week on Lexia Core 5 (K-5) or Power Up (6-8)
- 45 minutes of iReady in ELA and Math (Grades 3-8)
When your child logs in through clever at www.clever.com/in/jppss, they can click the icon for any of the apps mentioned above. You can check their progress through there to see if they met one, two, or all of their participation goals for the week!
Parents of students in grades 4-8:
We have a few housekeeping reminders.
- Please check your child's uniform to ensure it meets the school and district policies.
- Please check your child's school bag and remove any unnecessary items, such as make up, eye lash curlers, perfume, toys, trinkets, and other non-instructional materials.
- As part of federal funding, we receive FREE breakfast and lunch. Because of that, if your student eats school lunch, they can not bring chips/candy to supplement lunch. It could jeopardize the free breakfast and lunch students receive. If you are sending your child with lunch, you can pack whatever you see fit for your child. A large number of students in grades 4-8 are bringing chips, candy, etc. to the cafeteria to eat after they eat lunch. Unfortunately, this is not permitted at this time.
- They CAN bring a water bottle to school. PE is hot, and we want to ensure they are properly hydrated. It just needs to be clear.
- Thanks for all of your support in helping us remove barriers so we can focus on instruction.
Construction Updates:
Capital Project | The Villas have been completed! Students in 4th and 5th grade dual language will begin class tomorrow morning in their brand new classrooms! Thank you to Jefferson Parish Schools for investing in our campus by providing our students with a brand new facility! We promise to take excellent care of it! For families of students impacted, be looking for an invitation to a ribbon cutting even to formally celebrate.
Hurricane Ida Repairs | Roofing - This project has been paused. We will update when there is more information to be shared.
Again, we want to remind you that as we navigate all of the construction projects:
- Your child's safety is our number 1 priority.
- We meet with the architect, contractor, and project manager weekly to ensure all preventative safety measures have been put in place.
- We are excited for the investment in Alexander and the rejuvenation of the building that supports the community we love.

Substance Abuse Disciplinary Consequences per JP District
Please review the updated district substance policy consequences: Vaping Policy: A 1st offense for tobacco/nicotine vapes now carries a 45-day removal to an alternative school. Cumulative Offenses: Consequences stack across all substance categories. Example: A 1st offense for a tobacco vape followed by a 2nd offense for a THC vape results in the 2nd offense THC consequence, a full school year (2 semesters) expulsion to alternative school. Please talk with your student and help them make the right choice! Every decision matters.
