A Note From the Desk of Mrs. D'Amico... A Note From the Desk of Mrs. D'Amico...

Dear WIS Families,

Welcome, Mr. Bruni!

You have all received the letter introducing Mr. Bruni, along with his resume and the reasons our hiring committee felt he was the right person for the Assistant Principal position. After just one week in his new role, I can confidently say that we made the perfect choice for WIS!

From his very first days, Mr. Bruni has been everywhere: connecting with students, supporting staff, and building relationships with families. He has spent time at lunch talking and getting to know students, played wall ball and basketball at recess, and met individually with students to help them navigate challenges and take positive steps forward.

He has connected with families and helped put them at ease, supported arrival and dismissal, met with teacher teams to talk about math instruction, covered classrooms when needed, and even taught a lesson or two!

In true WIS fashion, he has jumped right in. He is present, approachable, and genuinely interested in getting to know our students, staff, and families. After just one week, it is already clear that the hiring committee made an excellent choice, and that Mr. Bruni is going to be a wonderful addition to our WIS community.

Please join me in giving Mr. Bruni a very warm WELCOME TO WIS! We are so happy to have you here!

Thank you,

Jen

Be sure to sign up for a conference with your child’s teacher(s)! These short touchpoints are a wonderful opportunity to connect, share insights, celebrate progress, and talk about how we can continue to support your child’s growth. Strong school-family partnerships make a difference, and we value the opportunity to work together on behalf of every WIS student.

WIS Recognized Among Connecticut’s Top Elementary Schools

We are proud to share that Weston Intermediate School has been ranked #36 among Connecticut’s public elementary schools in the 2027 U.S. News & World Report Best Elementary Schools rankings!

This recognition places WIS among the top 40 public elementary schools in Connecticut and reflects the strong academic outcomes of our students. The 2027 U.S. News rankings use an expanded methodology that considers student performance in reading and mathematics across proficiency levels, while also taking student background and achievement into account.

While we know that a ranking can never capture everything that makes a school special, it is certainly something worth celebrating. This recognition is a reflection of the hard work of our students, the dedication and expertise of our teachers and staff, and the partnership of our WIS families. Most importantly, it reminds us of what happens when a school community comes together around high expectations, meaningful learning, and a commitment to helping every student Work. Improve. Succeed.

Congratulations, WIS! We are proud of our students and grateful for the incredible educators who support them every day.

We are looking forward to celebrating Halloween together at school! Our staff has planned a fun and festive day for all students to enjoy. Students are welcome to come to school dressed in their costumes and wear them throughout the day.

To ensure that everyone has a safe and enjoyable celebration, please remember the following guidelines for costumes:

  • No masks that cover the face or obstruct vision

  • No weapons or accessories that resemble weapons of any kind

  • No inflatable costumes (these are difficult to manage in classrooms and hallways)

  • Costumes should be comfortable and allow students to fully participate in all school activities throughout the day

Please have your child arrive at school already dressed in their costume, as there will not be time set aside during the day to change.

We can’t wait to see all the creative, fun, and school-appropriate costumes as we celebrate together! Thank you for helping us make this a safe, fun, and engaging day for everyone.

What a wonderful day at WIS! 🌳📚

We celebrated the conclusion of our One School, One Read with a cozy day in our pajamas, sharing our wishes, enjoying fun activities, and spending time with our buddy classes.

It was a wonderful schoolwide celebration filled with connection, laughter, and plenty of WIS PRIDE! From sharing wishes to spending time with friends across grade levels, it was the perfect way to bring our Wishtree journey to a close.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make our One School, One Read such a meaningful experience for our entire WIS community! 💙💛

Green Team Green Team

On Oct 23rd the Green Team gathered in the courtyard to plan for their spring planting. Team members were asked to draw, measure the new planting beds and the garden bed next to the window. It was a great opportunity for 5th graders to use their knowledge of volume. Green team is ready to determine the amount of soil needed for planting.

Calling all student artists!

The Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority (HRRA) is hosting its Annual Billboard Recycling Contest with this year’s theme: “I RECYCLE! DO YOU?” Students are invited to create artwork that inspires our community to take action, protect our environment, and practice proper recycling. Winning designs will be featured on regional billboards, giving local students a chance to see their artwork displayed for thousands to see! Official templates HERE and contest guidelines are available through this HRRA link.

All entries must be completed on the official template and returned to your teacher or school main office by Monday, November 16, 2026. Each teacher will be given official cardstock templates for their students. Let’s show our community how our school recycles right!

Students may ask their teachers for the proper flyer or click this link and print a copy of the HRRA flyer. We are looking forward to some great art!
