By reviewing programs, services and physical spaces, MPS will make better use of its resources. Using the strategic plan as a roadmap, MPS will enhance the quality of education for all students, creating more robust and supportive learning environments.

In the event of severe weather, which can include extreme heat, cold, snow or ice, Anthony Middle School will move to a Distance Learning Day. Families will be notified at least two hours prior to the start of the school day via emails, robocalls, texts, major news media, and the MPS homepage.

Tech Crew
Students who signed up for tech for the school musical do not need to attend afterschool yet and should stay tuned for more information about their official start date. If you audition and do not get a part, you will be offered either a spot in Tech Crew OR the Set Design class. Tech Crew positions are: Student Producers, spotlights, light board, sound/mics, costumes, backstage crew, front of house crew. Set design/painting will be a separate after-school class where students help design and paint our large set pieces and backgrounds!
Student Producers
Students who are interested in being Student Producers for the school musical will interview with Ms. Ringold during 6th period on Monday, December 16th. Student Producer positions are only open to 7th and 8th graders. In order to interview, you must speak to Ms. Ringold in Room 211 ahead of time so she knows to expect you on Monday.
Buses:
After School Activity buses are available on Mondays - Thursdays. Please note on the Registration Form if you will require an after school bus! Please note, students are only eligible for an ALC bus if they take a regular school day bus. The after school bus leaves promptly at 5:50 PM. Ride-sharing is encouraged.
Donations:
We require funding for set materials, props, costumes, lighting design, sound design, staff, etc. so we are accepting donations! Your donations will also fund food for the cast dinner, T-shirts for participants, and other things that aren’t covered by ALC funding. To donate we will accept cash, check (made out to Anthony PTA), or Venmo @AnthonyPTA_IrvingAve. Please note on your check or in venmo that the donation amount is intended for the Anthony school musical.
If you have any questions regarding the musical that are not addressed in the Actor/Tech packet, you can contact the director, Ms. Ringold, via email: emily.ringold@mpls.k12.mn.us
Sincerely,
The Anthony Musical Team

Anthony Gift Card Drive
Anthony Middle School families need your support this holiday season. Many Anthony families need help getting what they need most over the winter break: clothes, toys, groceries, personal care items, etc. To help, the student support team is organizing a gift card drive to support these community members. Providing gift cards from Cub and Target, retailers that are easily accessible to Anthony families, allows our family members to use the funds at their discretion and provides a holiday boost.
If you are interested in donating, we are collecting Target, Cub Foods and Metro Transit gift cards in increments of $25. We of course welcome larger donations, but ask that they be provided in $25 increments for ease of distribution. Gift cards can be dropped off in the main office through Wednesday, December 18th. Thank you for your continuous generous support. Happy Holidays.

Featured volunteer roles:
I promise we aren’t scary!! Please consider a PTA role so the excellence of Anthony continues when some of our parents graduate this spring. By shadowing us and learning the ropes now, it makes next year go smoothly. Consider if this could be a way you contribute to our great Anthony community as a co-president or co-treasurer.
Plan ahead - get these dates on your calendar!
Many volunteers will be needed for these two longstanding events and they are a great way to see your student’s classmates work or to scope out what next year has in store for them.

Family Activity/Vacation Policy
Anthony Families,
As we approach the Holiday Season, we realize you might want to know more about the Family Activity/Vacation policy from the Minneapolis District. Minneapolis also acknowledges time off for religious observances that may fall on school days.
Click here for the full Attendance Policy Information. Below is the section regarding excused family vacation.
Some of MPS Excused Absences:
Approved family activity for up to five (5) days within one school year, when
- The parent or guardian requests permission for the absence ten (10) regularly scheduled school days in advance of the first absence; and
- The absences are approved in writing by the principal or site administrator in advance of the first absence, and
- Missed schoolwork is assigned by the student’s teacher or teachers, and the parent or guardian agrees that schoolwork will be completed; and
- The absences will not occur during state-wide testing dates; and
- Where the student has shown adequate progress and attendance prior to the request.
Religious observance, when the school is notified in advance.
PLEASE NOTE: After 5 excused days, all other dates for family activity will be marked as "unexcused" but noted in the comment section as "school notified of absence."
Helpful documents:
- Family Activity Form-- (only if student will be absent more than 3 days in a row during school year)
- Anthony Attendance Form--(use this for past, present and future absences)
Reporting an Absence
- Attendance phone line 612-668-3271
- Google form Anthony Attendance Form
- Both options are located on the website Contact - Anthony Middle School
Make sure your student comes to the office to get a GREEN leave-early pass if they are being picked up during the school day.
Lawful excuses include: sickness, doctor’s visit (must have verification from clinic), religious holidays, funerals, and extreme family emergencies.
Examples of non-excused absences: missing the bus, oversleeping, or attending non-MPS sponsored activities.
