Weekly Family Communication

The mission of Holy Rosary School is to help each child discover and fully develop their God-given talents. As a Catholic School community, we strive for excellence in our students’ spiritual, academic, physical, mental, aesthetic, and social-emotional growth. It is our intention that those who attend this institution mature into active citizens leading a committed faith life and reaching out to help others locally, nationally, and internationally with their wisdom, time, talent, and financial resources.
Principal's Message
Dear Holy Rosary Families,
As we continue through this second week of Lent, it can sometimes be challenging to remain attentive to this time as we journey alongside Jesus in the desert. But it is so important that we see this time for the important purpose it serves, helping us prepare for the Easter mysteries. I want to share with you some more resources that may aid in your Lenten journey.
We will welcome Father Oakland back soon, he will be back in the office at the end of next week. We've missed him and will look forward to hearing all about his sabbatical.
In the meantime, we are hiring for next year, as noted in my message last week. If you, or someone you know may be interested please find our open positions posted here. Next week I will also attend an important Partners in the Gospel meeting, as we continue learning more about the next steps as we join with Our Lady of Guadalupe to form a new parish family. More to come!
Have a blessed rest of the week!
In Christ,
Anna
Lenten Activities To Help You & Your Family Grow In Faith
More ideas on ways to grow in faith as a family this Lenten season!
*Make a cross with things you can find out in nature. Collect items on a walk like twigs or rocks and glue them to make a simple cross. Talk with your child(ren) about why the cross is associated with Lent.
*Share a meal with someone. Food brings people together! Make a meal for a friend or neighbor.
*Give something away. Together as a family, you could choose some items to donate. Or each family member could select a few of their items to give away to a charity, or another friend or family in need. Talk about how important it is to give away our extras to those who may need it or can use it.
*Mail a handwritten note to someone. Consider surprising someone with a piece of mail!
*Pray for someone. Routine prayers are great but try to challenge yourself by bringing in someone new to your prayers. Don’t know where to start? Look through the yearbook and pick a teacher or a friend!

Notes & Reminders
Spring Is Spring(ing) And So Are The Students!
Throughout the school year, sometimes kids grow and uniforms get a bit too small/short. If your child is in need of new sizes, you can reach out to the office (NannetteBuroker@gmail.com) and we'll see what we have in stock in the uniform closet. Please help us to make sure that skirts, skorts, jumpers and shorts. are not too short (at a minimum must be longer than fingertips when extended, but preferably no less than 3" above the kneecap). Detailed information about the uniform and dress code can also be found in the family handbook.
Used Uniforms
We have many skirts, skorts and jumpers up for grabs. If you need any item from the Uniform Closet please contact Nannette at: NannetteBuroker@gmail.com
Currently we are getting requests for red cardigans, cadet jackets and sweatshirts. Please continue to turn in uniform items so the uniform closet can fulfill student requests. Thank you for those families who have turned in outgrown and unused uniforms.
Action Items
Donate To Father Dunstan's School & Get Free Dress On Friday
We will take up a special collection on five Fridays during Lent to support Father Dunstan and his school in Kenya. You may remember Father Dunstan who was with us for a school Mass in January and who celebrated Christmas Masses with us. Father Dunstan has a school in Kenya and they are trying to build a kitchen in order to keep their food safe from animals to feed their students. Our students will get to learn more about this in class. On these Fridays in Lent (3/1, 3/8, 3/15, and 3/22) students may come to school in free dress if they bring in a donation (minimum $1) to support this important need in Kenya. We strongly encourage students to earn the $1 each week doing some act of service around their home. This way they will connect their own service to their almsgiving. Students may come in uniform on these days if they choose not to participate, and please no free dress passes these Fridays.
Lunches For St. Martin de Porres
We will continue our tradition of supporting a local men's shelter in Seattle, St. Martin de Porres. We will take up collections as follows (optional as well, but encourage participation if possible). We will deliver the donations from our school to St. Martins each of these Fridays.

Last Names A-L: Disposable razors and shaving cream (travel size)
Last Names M-Z: Brown Bag Lunches (perishable OK)
Friday, March 8th:

Last Names M-Z: Travel toothbrushes/toothpaste
Fri. March 15th:

International Student Needs Host Family
We have a wonderful exchange student from Japan who arrived in the US a few months ago and is currently living with a host family in Seattle. However, due to the host family’s circumstances they will not be able to continue hosting him for the remainder of the school year.
He is a really nice boy who loves sports and being active. He is very proud of his Japanese heritage and is excited to share it with others.
I am reaching out to you to see if you would be willing to share this information with your students and their families to see if any of them may be interested in hosting him for the remainder of his stay in the US. I am hopeful that you or someone you know will consider opening up your heart and your home to this wonderful student for the next few months. Because we are moving him after he’s already completed a semester at West Seattle High School, we would like to try and keep him in the same school, however I have been granted approval from the district to move him to another school, should we find a family within a different boundary. For more information, contact Nicole Hernandez
