October Parent Newsletter
Harry F Abate Elementary School

📣 Families! Here's What's Happening This Month:
On behalf of our Harry F. Abate faculty and staff members, I want to thank you for your assistance in supporting a such smooth school opening! At this time, our teachers and students are actively engaged in classroom routines and rituals that support quality instruction in Math, ELA, Science, Social Studies and all special areas.
Additionally, I would like to thank Grace Lutheran Church and The Chapel for their generous and timely donations of student school supplies and backpacks which were distributed to our students in need.
Parent Group: Our October Parent Group meeting will be held in Café A on October 29th at 5:00pm. We hope you and your child will join us. In addition to our October meeting, we have a special program - Harvest Festival Family Fun Night - Pumpkin Carving with a Cop scheduled for October 16th. Please note, a QR code to register can be found on the October calendar and on our Facebook page. New Room Parents are encouraged to join us for this family friendly event as well.
Attendance matters
As always, student daily attendance will continue to be our priority; attendance phone calls, text nudges and letters will be sent to students as needed. Please let us know how we can support you with attendance issues or concerns.
Clinic: Thank you for your continued support in monitoring your child(ren’s) health prior to them leaving for school in the morning. Please contact the main office if your child will be absent from school; your child’s teacher and school counselor will work with you to offer support while they are absent. Contact Mrs. Gardner (school nurse) at (716) 278-7964 with any questions or concerns.
Safety and Security
Reminder: Main Entrance traffic patterns support 3, one-way driving lanes. We ask that you proceed with caution while maintaining a 5mph speed limit and a distinct Drop-off lane with bollards (barriers) to create a clear line of traffic. We ask that you do not park or get out of your cars in these designated lanes. Please park in the front parking lot for arrival or dismissal if you have to leave your car.
We will continue to practice fire, bus, lock-down and evacuation drills throughout the year: Fire Prevention Assembly Oct 2nd, Lockdown Drill Oct 9th and Fire Drill Oct 10th.
Social Emotional Learning
Our Trauma Informed Care (TIC) Champion team will continue to implement a task force to support the social emotional wellness of our students to include Trusted Adult Mentors for our students in need. Our highlighted character trait for October is Self-Control and Move this World theme is Emotional Expressiveness - understanding and recognizing the ways our emotions affect us and others.
