Lots of hard work and learning in our AIG classroom! Lots of hard work and learning in our AIG classroom!

AIG Instruction

Fourth and fifth grade students who are identified as AIG will come to AIG group. First- third grade students will receive whole group nurturing lessons in their classrooms weekly. These are the topics we will be focusing on in the upcoming weeks:

Fifth grade math- Using their knowledge of decimals, students have been creating their own restaurant menu. Using their menus students are creating multi step word problems. We are looking forward to challenging our classmates to solve the word problems.

Fifth grade reading- In preparation for the science fair students are researching an impactful figure in science or engineering. After analyzing their research students will present their learning to their classmates.

Fourth grade math- Students are researching the costs of activities for their families to do together on a Saturday. We will create a graph based on the cost of each activity and analyze the graph to make a decision on which activity would be most appropriate based on the median price.

Fourth grade reading-In preparation for the science fair students are researching an impactful figure in science or engineering. After analyzing their research students will present their learning to their classmates.

Third grade- We are preparing for the coGAT. Students have been solving and creating analogies. We have been practicing visual analogies, mathematical analogies, and spatial reasoning.

Second grade- In each classroom we have been categorizing shapes and objects. Students have been working to find relationships and connections to create classifications.

First grade- Students have learned strategies for deductive thinking and are learning to apply them through mysteries.

Math Superstars

All fourth and fifth grade students will be given a math superstars worksheet on Monday. The goal of this is for students to continue their AIG math extensions outside of our classrooms. Students will bring their completed superstars sheet with them to class the following Monday, and a new Superstars sheet will be assigned. We review our superstars on Monday in class. If a student has not finished their superstars, they will be sent back to class to complete the assignment.

3rd grade CoGAT

All third grade students will take the CoGAT test. The coGAT will be given at school on Tuesday, October 21, Wednesday, October 22, and Thursday, October 23. Students have been preparing for the coGAT during their nurturing lessons. Score reports will be sent home to parents after the coGAT has been completed.
