Hello Rattlers families,

We are only a few days away from the start of the 25-26 school year. We are extremely excited to see the hustle and bustle of students on campus. Whether you are new to the campus or a returning student we are confident that you will invest in your own academic, athletic, and artistic journeys.

I would like to encourage all students to approach this new school year with enthusiasm, a readiness to learn, and a commitment to personal growth. We have a wonderful group of dedicated teachers and staff that are here to support your students and assist them in their journey towards excellence.

As we begin this school year there are a couple of things that I want you to be aware of.

• Phones – Gilbert Public Schools has introduced a no phone policy for all K-8 schools. This means from the first morning bell, until the end of school bell, phones should not be out or in use, “Away for the Day.” This does include the use of smartwatches and headphones/earbuds. -If you have an urgent need to speak with your student, please contact the Desert Ridge Junior High front office at 480-635-2025, and we will be happy to assist you. If your student has an urgent need to contact you, we will have a phone in the front office where students can contact parents when necessary.

• Student Drop off and Pick Up – The drop-off/pick-up area is located on the North side of campus closest to Madero Ave. It is always a busy place, but even more so during the first couple weeks of school. Please be patient, there are several hundred parents and students that are navigating this process for the very first time.

• School Cafeteria - The cafeteria can also be a busy place the first week of school. As students adjust to the Desert Ridge Junior High cafeteria process there are often delays. Please be assured that during these first days we will be sure that every student has an opportunity to eat.

Students will receiver their ID when pictures are taken on Wednesday, July 23rd.

Students are expected to wear their student ID badges at all times. Students are provided with their badge and lanyard during the first weeks of school.

Key Information:

• Please work with your students to ensure they bring their ID badge with them to school every day.

• When students arrive at school they will enter through a secured door or gate and will be required to have their ID badge for entrance.

• Bus riders will use the barcode on their ID badge for getting on and off the bus. As a parent you will be able to view the whereabouts of the bus using the Here Comes the Bus app, more details below.

• Students use the barcode on their ID badges to access nutrition services (cafeteria), library, and bookstore.

• If a student forgets their badge they will be issued a temporary sticker badge for a small $1 cost.

• Cost for replacement badges (lost ID’s) will remain at $5.00.
