F.E.S. POINTS OF P.R.I.D.E.
September 19th, 2025
It's been a very fulfilling week for our F.E.S. students!
Building an Academic Community
- To create a safe and predictable learning environment
- To ensure all students have the tools to be well-regulated so they can engage in learning
The curriculum principles and practices are based on standards within the Responsive Classroom model and the comprehensive framework of the Zones of Regulation. Through combined implementation of both of these approaches, students and staff create a community of learners that individually and together can be successful in school. If you have the chance to attend our Open House on Wednesday, September 24, take a look around for students' Hopes and Dreams as well as student/teacher created classroom "rules", stated in positive actions, that foster student collaboration and the practices of self-discipline. These are the beginnings of creating an academic community. Our hope and dream is to open your child's world to how exciting learning can be!

Responsive ClassroomResearching with a Smile!
In Ms. Parisi's 3-4 class, students were incredibly focused and determined to complete their NWEA testing for the fall. We started a new research unit for literacy and in math, we are learning about fractions and multiplication!
Learning about Oneself and Each Other
In our Grade 1-2 classroom with Mrs. Carbonneau, we are working on characteristics of identity, what makes us special and what is in our hearts. Learning about ourselves as individuals and as learners promotes informed decision-making and fosters strong relationships. Students were excited to have their picture taken to start this important discovery work!
In our academic areas, in our grade 1 math unit, we are working on adding and subtracting within 20, while our second graders are adding and subtracting within 50 and working in double digits. Reading for all students K-2 are deepening their phonics and phonemic awareness skills as they learn about syllables, word parts and the individual sounds in one syllable words.
Digging Deep into Literacy
Kindergarten has begun working on specific sounds in words which start with the letters a, m and s. Our Grade 1 students reviewed the plural s (which has two sounds) and has begun a deeper review of the vowel sounds beginning with short a sound. Learning about vowel sounds and how we produce each individual one is very important to mastering all the words in the English language for reading and spelling. Materials will continue to be sent home and it would be great for you to encourage your child to read to you!
