"We want to make a difference in the lives of our students. We want them to learn how to make a difference in their own lives and to make a difference in the lives of others."

We see a need, and we want to participate as active members of a community that makes a difference by taking action to help others in need—in this case, those experiencing food insecurity.

PTO and We Don't Waste (WDW) are our partners as Lone Tree Elementary students and staff work to help those going through uncertain times and require food assistance.

Please join us in donating any of the following food items:
  • Most needed: canned proteins, instant foods, and microwavable items
  • Any non-perishable shelf-stable foods and canned items
  • Snacks, beverages, and bottled water

*Since WDW fights food waste and is passionate about food not ending up in our landfills, they will accept any dry goods up to 5 years past their expiration date, so clean out your pantries!

Items may be sent in with students or dropped off on the carts located outside the main entrance.

We will collect items starting October 31 through November 20.

Thanks for helping us make a difference!

Why We Partner with We Don't Waste Why We Partner with We Don't Waste

We Don’t Waste will pick up and deliver our food items to their nonprofit partners, including food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, schools, daycare programs, and more. They also organize mobile food markets in needed areas.

We began collaborating with We Don't Waste (WDW) in 2018 when we started to recover food from our cafeteria. Instead of going into the trash, students put unused food items into a "We Don't Waste" bin. WDW picked up the collected items weekly and delivered our food directly to local shelters and food banks. Systems have changed since then, but we have kept our partnership alive by hosting food drives and collecting items for them to pick up and distribute directly to those in need.
