Wicker News for Parents

As we begin the month of February, W. B. Wicker will celebrate the contributions of African American inventors, authors, educators, and more! Our students will have opportunities to learn about the culture, traditions, and much more! We will have a door decorating contest where the Wicker creativity will run wild throughout the building! When you get a chance, we encourage everyone to stop by and see the different doors that will be on display for the entire month. All of this will help us to gear up for our Black History Program that will be help on Friday, February 28th!

We are still conducting our WIDA ACCESS Testing for all of our EL students. This test will help to determine their knowledge of the English language. We are looking forward to some of our students "testing out" of this program! Special thanks to our ESL teachers Mrs. Baron, Mrs. Orellana, and Mrs. Martinez along with our ESL Assistant Mrs. Cruz who all work diligently each day to help our students be successful. They worked hard to helped students prepare for this test through everyday practice and by putting together a "Boot Camp" to help students feel comfortable with the test-like material / information before they actually test.

Our AIG teacher, Ms. Tina Lee, will be conducting AIG screening test for all eligible students. This test will identify students who will join the AIG program. We are excited to have these students screened and wish them well on their upcoming testing.

Indicator 8 of the State Performance Plan/Annual Performance Report (SPP/APR) measures the percentage of parents who report that schools facilitated parent involvement as a means of improving services and results for children with disabilities. NC DPI OEC is requiring all Public School Units to provide the survey to parents.

February 3-7, 2025 is National School Counselor Appreciation Week. We definitely want to show our appreciation to our school counselor Ms. Woodard! She goes above and beyond to make sure the needs of our students are met! When you see Ms. Woodard, please let her know how much she is appreciated!

Help us to also appreciate our school bus drivers, bus monitors, and substitute drivers during the week of February 10th-14th. Our drivers are responsible for carrying our precious cargo to and from school each day as well as take them on Field Trips throughout the year! Please let them know how great of a job they are doing each day!

We are looking for parents to serve on the PTSO Board, School Improvement Team, and help collect hours at the PTO Thrift Store! If you are willing to or are able to help in any area that helps to serve the students and the school, please reach out to Mr. Beasley.
