OWL NEWS
VOLUME 5 - SEPTEMBER 30, 2025
Owls,
October is upon us and boy are we proud of all the OWLSOME things happening at Riverside! From fun field trips to themed days and everything in between. Riverside is a special place because of all our scholars, educators, and families!
We want to send a huge thank you to all the amazing "dudes" who joined us for our Donuts with Dudes event! It was a truly wonderful morning filled with smiles, connection, and community. Your presence made it special for our students, and we are so grateful for your time and support.
We are also thrilled to celebrate this month’s Owl Supporter: Miriam Fedorovich!
Ms. Fedorovich went above and beyond to make our Scholastic Book Fair a huge success. She dedicated countless hours, worked closely with our scholars all week (and more!), and created such a positive and memorable experience for our entire Riverside community.
Thank you, Ms. Fedorovich, for your time, effort, and dedication — we are so grateful for all that you do to support Riverside! 💙🦉
One last thing, thank you again for rolling with the Picture Day changes. We recognize the inconvenience and appreciate your flexibility.
With much love and respect,
Ms. Kama-Starr and Mr. Cohen

PICTURE DAY INFORMATION - 10/3/25
SAVE THE DATE - OCTOBER 31ST, 2025
We are so excited to host our first-ever Dance Marathon to benefit the Riverside Parent Teacher Council (PTC)! On Thursday, October 31st, all of our scholars will come together to dance, celebrate, and support our school community.
The Dance Marathon will culminate in our annual Costume Parade and the announcement of our final fundraising total. Our goal is $10,000—and every dollar makes a difference!
💙💛 Here’s how you can help:
-
Donate! Proceeds support the Parent Teacher Council and their amazing work for our scholars and staff. Grade levels are competing to raise the most, and the winning grade earns a special celebration party 🎊. The link to the fundraiser will be shared in the coming days.
-
Parade Donations: We’re accepting bags of individually wrapped candy (bags of 25 pieces or more), Fall/Halloween fun bags of chips/pretzels/fruit snacks (minimum 24 count), Fall/Halloween theme pencils (minimum of 24), or Fall/Halloween theme tattoos (1 package).
All donations can be dropped off in the front office. Thank you in advance for helping us make this tradition extra sweet! 🍬 -
Volunteer: We’d love your help during the Costume & Candy Parade! Volunteers are needed from 1:30–3:30 PM. Sign up using [this link].
A few notes about costumes...
- Scholars are permitted to wear their costumes for the duration of the day at school.
- Scholars cannot bring any accessories that resemble any type of weapon. Examples include but are not limited to knives, guns, cleavers, machete, etc.
- Scholars can wear minimal face paint (eye makeup, lipstick, scars, etc.).
- Please ensure that your child can take their costume on and off independently. It is a good idea that scholars have t-shirts, leggings, or shorts under their costumes in case they need to take them off during the school day.
- Scholars still need to wear school appropriate footwear.
- Scholars can ONLY wear masks during the parade time for the safety of all scholars.

🦉 When to Keep Your Child Home from School
We know it can be tough to decide whether to send your child to school when they’re not feeling their best. While we want students in class as much as possible, there are times when staying home is the healthiest choice—for your child and others.
Please keep your child home if they have any of the following:
- A fever of 100.4°F or higher (without fever-reducing medication)
- Vomiting or diarrhea in the last 24 hours
- A persistent or severe cough that disrupts normal activity
- Eye irritation (itching, pain, or drainage)
- A spreading or worsening rash
- A severe headache caused by fever or injury
- Ongoing pain from a sore throat, earache, stomachache, or injury
⏰ 24-Hour Rule:
- Fever: Stay home until fever-free for 24 hours without medication.
- Vomiting/Diarrhea: Stay home for 24 hours after the last episode and once eating normally.
- Antibiotics: Wait 24 hours after the first dose before returning to school.
Important: Giving your child Tylenol or Advil to reduce a fever and then sending them to school is not advised. Once the medication wears off, the fever may return—and we’ll need to call you to pick them up.
🚌 SBHC Van Update
We’re excited to welcome back the School-Based Health Center (SBHC) Van once a certified driver is available. Stay tuned for updates and sign up using the link below!
💉 Flu Season Reminder
Flu season is here! Please schedule your child’s flu vaccine and remember: if your child is sick, keep them home. As a reminder, school staff are not permitted by law to administer any medication without a provider’s order.
💙 October Awareness
October is National Depression and Mental Health Screening Month and Bullying Prevention Month. Let’s work together to support the emotional well-being and safety of all our scholars.
