FUEL 5th Grade Monthly Update

Hello 5th Grade Families!

This year, I will share out a monthly flyer specifically for 5th grade families that will be focused on 5th grade events and to-dos. This final year of elementary school can often be a whirlwind of events and activities - our goal is to send one of these informational newsletters out each month with your need-to-knows!

Note: this does NOT take the place of the FUEL weekly newsletter. Your school-wide events, dates, etc. will still all only be in that newsletter. The regular newsletter will also contain 5th grade events as well, but this will hopefully help to streamline the information for you in this final semester.

This will also include a monthly newsletter from the FMS staff with this newsletter that will contain all of your need-to-knows for the big transitions coming in the spring.

5th Grade Transition Events

• Mon. 2/9 - FMS Parent Information Night & BuildingTour, 6-7:00 pm @ FMS Auditorium *UPDATED DATE*

• Mon. 2/23 - FMS Virtual Parent Information Night, 6 pm via Google Meet (same information as the in-person night)

• Fri. 2/27 - FMS Scheduling Forms due to Homeroom Teachers

• Mon. 3/2- FMS Scheduling Day @ FUEL (8:45-3 pm)

• Wed. 6/3 - 5th Grade Move Up Day at FMS

Upcoming 5th Grade Dates

5th Grade Spelling Bee 2025

Ferndale Upper is enrolled once again in the Scripps Spelling Bee for winter 2026! Information on the Bee will came out just before break with Classroom Bee lists. We will host our classroom bees in mid-January, and the school spelling bee (with the 6 classroom winners) will be held on Wednesday, February 11th! The county-level Bee will take place on Saturday, March 14th.

OK2Say Assembly - Michigan State Police via the Ferndale Youth Assistance

On Tuesday, February 3rd, our 5th graders will hear from a Michigan State Police officer on the OK2Say campaign and its various uses, particularly as they begin preparing to transition to middle school.

Battle of the Books Event - Ferndale Library & FUEL Annual Event

On Tuesday, March 17th, our 5th Graders will compete in teams (optional, sign-up only) in our annual Battle of the Books event hosted by the Ferndale Library! Check out the info flyer here and ways to get books here!
