Student of the Week

Each week Team Integrity highlights one student we feel has exemplified the attributes of a Junior Statesman - the Hixson Middle School mascot. This student exhibits our school's core values of teamwork, positive relationships, and respect, as well as our team value of integrity.

May 2nd

This week, we are excited to honor Kye Long! Kye is a self-driven student who wants to learn. His curiosity and work ethic drive him to be successful in all areas of school, and he is able to complete tasks independently and with great outcomes. He strives to do his best every day in showing all of the values of Team Integrity. Congratulations Kye!

May 9th

This week, we are excited to honor Hope Smull! Hope is a consistent student who works hard, shows responsibility and drive, and can always be counted on to contribute positively to our team community. She is a great friend and conscientious worker, and we are appreciative of everything that she adds to our team! Congratulations Hope!

May 19-23

This week in ELA, students wrapped up their creative narratives. I highly encourage you to read through your kiddo’s story–they are all awesome!

Creative narratives (as well as all assignments from this quarter) are due tonight (5/16) by 11:59pm.

If your student has not yet turned in their Chromebook, charger, and case to the Hixson Library, they should do so as soon as possible this coming week. Any students who do not return equipment will be fined.

Grading Policy:

  • Unless otherwise noted (e.g. reading logs), students are able to submit assignments for full credit through the Friday before the end of the quarter (May 16th). This includes redoing assignments where they may feel that they have not done as well as they wanted.

  • Grades in Canvas are updated directly as assignments are graded. Students should check in Canvas if they believe that they have completed an assignment and want to know if it is submitted.

  • Grades in Infinite Campus are now able to be directly synced and are set to update at approximately 10:00pm each evening. Any grade in Canvas will transfer over to Infinite Campus at this time. If an assignment has not yet been graded in Canvas, it will not transfer over to Infinite Campus.

Congratulations! You made it through 6th grade math successfully. It’s always interesting to see the different personalities and strengths of each new group of 6th graders. The class of 2031 has a lot going for them and it will be exciting to see them grow through their next couple of years at Hixson.

If you are looking for some summer math suggestions please see this link. It has been compiled by our math coordinator, Susan Bergman, and provides resources suitable for any level of math a student wishes to explore.

Thank you. Have a GREAT summer!

This week in science class students completed their final summative assessment over our Earth’s internal and external processes. Those will be graded soon and uploaded to Infinite Campus as their last grade for the semester.

Next week we go to Camp! Please see the email I sent out via Parent Square earlier this week regarding what to pack (and not pack!), and when to pick up your students on Thursday. Please also be on the lookout for future emails regarding camp coming soon!

I can’t believe the school year is almost over. I am so proud of our students and the way they transitioned into middle school. I wish our students all the best in 7th grade and beyond - I know they will do amazing things!

May 19-23

Students who wanted to retake the Great Depression Summative should have picked up a new study guide from me this week. The study guide needs to be completed before Monday to be able to do the retake.

Last week, we spent the week talking about the causes of WWII. They started a final summative project. They will have Monday and Tuesday to work on it in class with a hard deadline of Tuesday at 3:25 as the deadline. This is due to us going to camp and needing to finish grades by the end of the week.

Student also finished the 2nd semester map quizzes this week. Many students did a great job on studying for these quizzes and learning where countries are around the world. Hopefully now, they will go into 7th and 8th grade a little more prepared.

Last little message - Thank you for a wonderful year and support that you have shown for me and your students. It was wonderful getting to know everyone of them. Have a great summer!!
