Dear South Parents and Guardians,
We hope everyone enjoys a safe and fun evening of celebration! October has been a fantastic month at South, filled with student talent, teamwork, and excitement. Our students shined on stage in this year’s Variety Show, Welcome to the Middle (School) Ages, on October 17 and 18. What an incredible showcase of creativity and confidence—our performers truly wowed the audience!
We also wrapped up the first quarter with a wonderful recognition assembly celebrating students’ accomplishments and commitment to our C.A.R.D.S. values—Caring, Achieving, Respectful, Dedicated, and Serving. It’s always inspiring to see our students support one another and take pride in their hard work.
As we move into November, we look forward to our annual South Food Drive to support the Wheeling Township Food Pantry. This is always a special opportunity for our school community to come together in service and kindness.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support in making South such a strong, caring community.

South Food Drive - November 3rd - 14th
South will be holding our annual food drive starting Monday November 3 until Friday November 14 to benefit the Wheeling Township Food Pantry.
The food pantry is in need of the following items:
- Baking products
- Beans, Instant Potatoes
- Canned fish
- Cereal
- Condiments
- Canned fruit & Meat
- Applesauce
- Pancake Mix & Syrup
- Snacks such as granola bars or fruit snacks.
- Jewel or Aldi gift cards for $25 or less.
Our school goal this year is to collect 1,800 items. If we achieve this goal, some staff members will do TikTok dances during lunch periods one day at school. This reward was voted on by our Student Council Executive Board.
We hope you will consider supporting our food drive this year. You can either send items with your child to school, or drop items off in the donation box in the main office. Thank you for your support!
Congratulations to our 1st Quarter CARDS Winners!
We are proud to recognize our students who have earned the C.A.R.D.S. award this quarter! This award highlights those who exemplify one of the core values of C.A.R.D.S.—Caring, Achieving, Respectful, Dedicated, or Serving. These students consistently demonstrate outstanding character and contribute positively to our school community. Congratulations to all of our CARDS recipients for setting such a wonderful example for their peers!
1st Quarter Recognition Assembly!
Our Quarter 1 Assembly was a wonderful celebration of our students’ hard work, growth, and positive contributions to our school community. We recognized students for their academic achievements, leadership, and commitment to our school values. The energy in the gym was incredible as students cheered for one another and celebrated their peers’ successes. It was a great way to wrap up the first quarter and strengthen our sense of community as we look forward to an even stronger Quarter 2!
Morning Drop-Off Safety Reminder
As we continue to prioritize student safety during morning drop-off, we’re asking for your help to make sure our arrival routines are safe and smooth for everyone.
-
Always yield to walkers and bikers in crosswalks.
-
Do not drop students off at stop signs—this causes traffic to back up and creates unsafe conditions.
-
Use designated drop-off zones only—avoid letting students out across the street, which encourages unsafe crossings.
Pull all the way forward to the next car in the drop off lane before your child gets out of the car. When cars pull all the way up, it allows for a faster drop off process and less wait time for parents in the line.
Thank you for helping keep our students safe!
Classroom Media Use ~ Parent Permission Form
In accordance with Arlington Heights School District 25 Board Policy, any movie or tv show, even shown in short clips, with a rating of PG (Parental Guidance) or greater requires parent permission. Please take a minute to fill out this permission form for your child's team by Monday, November 3.
*Be sure to submit one response for each child.*
