Designing Rigorous Science Classrooms: Elevating Cognitive Demand and Scientific Thinking Grades 6–12
November 5, 2025
Presenters: Char Shryock, Kelsy Krise, Christine Danhoff
What does high-quality science instruction look like when students are truly doing science? This workshop will help teachers explore the role of cognitive demand in science classrooms and how to design rigorous, meaningful tasks that engage students in deeper thinking. Participants will learn to intentionally plan instruction that balances all levels of cognitive demand—from foundational knowledge to high level analysis and application. Through guided work time and collaboration with grade-level and content-area peers, teachers will walk away with practical strategies and tasks that promote scientific thinking and prepare students for real world science and assessments alike.
Check out our gifted offerings!
Events will be added throughout the year, make sure to check back!
