October News

Hello Families!

We wrapped up our nonfiction book study of The Story of Salt and our "Recipes for Success". We have now begun our first novel study of the year, Boy of the Painted Cave, by Justin Denzel. Students love this story, set in "the stone age". Ask them about the characters, especially the "wolf-dog", Ram.

This novel study compliments our history studies about early humans and the Paleolithic era. We have already worked on two writing assignments for this novel unit. If you are interested in seeing their assignments, all typed student work is posted on my Google Classroom.

Dates to note:

November 4, 5 & 6: Half Days - Parent-Teacher Conferences - sign up information forthcoming

November 11: No School - Veteran's Day

November 25: Half Day

November 26-27: No School - Thanksgiving Break

Please reach out with any questions, concerns, or just to say hello. Email is the best way to reach me. My email address is wsomes@hr-k12.org

Some reminders from last month's newsletter:

Homework

ELA homework is weekly and is typically assigned on Mondays and will be due the Friday of that week. In the case of a Monday holiday or shortened week, the homework is given the first day of that week and due the last school day of that week. No homework the week of Thanksgiving.

Google Classroom

Your Sixth Grader uses my Google Classroom to type their final drafts of their writing submissions and to access digital assignments. Feel free to ask your student to show your their Google work, if they know how to login from home. If you you would like to receive updates from Google Classroom, please let me know.
