The Buzz
Summer Term - 7th May 2026
Message from the Executive Headteacher
I hope you had a restful and enjoyable bank holiday. It's been a busy week at HISN with both visitors and visits taking place and planned to ensure the children benefit from the enrichment of the curriculum.
On Tuesday we welcomed 52 Lives, School of Kindness into school to run kindness workshops for our year 1 and year 2 children. This included paired work with a peer and an activity in class. It was a great link to our Bee Rules around ‘Being kind to others’. These are free workshops however, if you would like to make a donation to support this charity, please do so by clicking here.
We also welcomed the NHS dental team for Reception, Year 1 and 2 who taught the children about the importance of looking after their teeth and how frequent brushing will help to keep them clean. Please click here for NHS Guidance on teeth brushing.
Finally, tomorrow we look forward to seeing year 2 in their ‘Explorer Day’ costumes which are always very imaginative.
We wish Y1 a wonderful day at Brooklands Museum. Their coach will be arriving just after 9am on Friday morning so please do ensure your child is on time and that you park out of the way which will enable the children to board and leave on time.
I hope you have a great weekend when it arrives.

We have been busy producing our own version of The Tiger Child, which we adapted into The Wolf Child. We focused on making our writing more exciting by using expanded noun phrases and used a “show, not tell” technique, helping us to describe characters’ thoughts, feelings, and actions in a more imaginative way. The children have shown great enthusiasm and creativity, and it has been wonderful to read their stories.
In maths, we have begun our new topic on fractions. We have been learning to find one half, one quarter, and one third of both shapes and an amount, using practical resources and visual models to support our understanding.
In science, we have been learning about the seven life processes, remembering using the acronym MRS GREN (Movement, Respiration, Sensitivity, Growth, Reproduction, Excretion, and Nutrition). We explored how all living things carry out these processes and used this knowledge to help us classify objects as living, no longer living, or never alive.
In history, we have been learning about the lives and achievements of Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole, and why they are considered such significant individuals. The children explored how both women made important contributions to nursing and healthcare during the Crimean War. A highlight of this topic was our Florence Nightingale workshop, where we stepped back in time to experience what life was like during her lifetime.
In PSHE, we have been focusing on communities and learning about how we all have a responsibility to look after our environment. We became planet protectors where we went into our school playground to collect litter. We then worked together to sort the rubbish into categories such as cardboard and plastic, learning about the importance of recycling and reducing waste.
Amazon Wish Lists
Over the last few years families have very kindly contributed gifts to the school via the Amazon wish list. These gifts are always incredibly well received and have made such a difference to the school community and your children.
This Wish List is populated by teachers who have a clear understanding of the additional resources that are needed and what would make the biggest difference. When completing your purchase, please remember to include a gift receipt stating which year group it should go to and who it is from.
If you are able to make a purchase, please follow the links below:
Lunchtime Supervisor Vacancy
HISN has a vacancy for a lunchtime supervisor Monday - Friday 11.25am to 12.40pm term time only.
If you are interested please send an email to recruitment@hpp.school to request an application form and find out more about the role.
Parking
Reminder to all parents to be considerate to our neighbours when dropping off and collecting your child. Do not park on zig-zag lines, double yellow lines or block neighbours driveways. Parking on zig-zag lines blocks visibility for both drivers and pedestrians, particularly young children who may be harder to see. Please park legally and considerately, and allow extra time to find appropriate parking. Even better – consider walking, cycling or using a park-and-stride location if possible.
