IMPORTANT UPDATE: Missed Exams

Accurate, effective, and timely feedback are essential to student achievement and engagement in their classes. In an effort to support teachers in providing timely feedback to students, and in the interests of informing students and parents about their achievement in their classes, SCS will be implementing a new procedure regarding missed exams and assessments. Effective February 8, 2026, when a student misses an exam or assessment, the following will occur:

  • Upon returning to class, a student will have the next two school days to use the after-school exam space to complete the missed exam of assessment.

  • Students will fill out a digital missed exam/assessment form, to indicate which date they will be writing the assessment after school.

  • Students who do not write their missed exam/assessment within the two day window will have a "NHI — Not Handed In" code applied to this exam/assessment on PowerSchool. This code applies a temporary score of "0" and will impact their grade.

  • Students may attempt to replace any "NHI" exam or assessment. Individual teachers will communicate with students when this window to re-write will open for their specific class (typically in the last month of the semester). This exam will not be the same as the original missed exam/assessment, but would be the version that students would complete as a "rewrite". Students will not be able to re-write this version of the exam/assessment.

  • We recognize that missing an exam/assessment will happen time to time due to appointments, illness, or school events. Teachers will however be tracking students who miss exams/assessments and administration will be following up with those who consistently miss exams/assessments for further conversation.

Thank you for co-operation in helping students write their exams/assessments on their intended day. This supports our teachers in providing the best feedback to our students in a timely manner. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Johnson directly (sandy.johnson@eips.ca)

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Updating Contact Info

If you have recently changed your address, phone number or email address, please complete the Year Round Update form found in your PowerSchool Parent Portal in the top left-hand corner. We are unable to manually update contact info, so all changes must come through the form.

On February 25th, our school will recognize Pink Shirt Day!

Pink Shirt Day is a day dedicated to standing up against bullying and choosing kindness, inclusion, and respect. It began in Canada when two students wore pink shirts to support a classmate who was being bullied. It has since grown into a nationwide movement reminding us that even small acts of courage can make a big difference.

Pink Shirt Day connects closely to the example of Jesus. Throughout the Gospels, Jesus shows us how to stand up for others, welcome those who feel left out, and respond to unkindness with love and compassion. He calls us to “love one another” and to treat others with dignity and respect.

Students are invited to participate in our Design Your Own Pink Shirt Art Competition! Create a design that promotes kindness, inclusion, and standing up for others. Submit your design to kristy.hutlet@eips.ca or drop off your design at Student Services! The winning design will be printed on a pink shirt!

Let’s wear pink proudly on February 25th and continue to build a community rooted in Christ’s love. 💕

SCS CAREER FAIR

We are VERY EXCITED about our 4th annual SCS Career Fair! On Thursday, March 5, over the lunch hour, students will have the opportunity to connect with nearly 100 SCA parents, alumni, community members and post-secondary school representatives, to network and learn about career fields of interest. Please encourage your students to attend this memorable and fun event! As an added bonus, students who participate in the career fair will have the opportunity to win some amazing prizes generously donated by our school community, including Oilers Tickets, loge seats at Oil Kings games (with parking passes included), Apple Air Pods, gift cards to Subway, Tim Hortons, Starbucks, and more!

In preparation for this event, parents we encourage you to chat with your students about their giftings and passions, and how they might use them in a career one day. Attached is a career conversation guide to help you.

If you are interested in getting involved or supporting this year’s career fair, please reach out Mrs. Matheson (dion.matheson@eips.ca)

Returning Student Registration for 2026-27

The Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) returning student registration process for 2026-27 takes place Feb. 9-23, 2026. Through the online form, families will confirm the school and program their child will attend next year or advise the Division if they aren’t returning. For students who want to attend a non-designated school next year, these requests must be submitted through the returning student registration process—acceptance is based on available space.

On February 9, the parent/guardian on file in PowerSchool identified as the Permission Click contact for each student will receive an email through Permission Click with a link to the form. If your family hasn’t received any Permission Click forms this school year, contact the school office so we can investigate any technical issues before registration season.
