Fall Universal Screener Final Week
The importance of checking in!
With five days remaining it is important to check in on progress towards completion across your school. Monitor iReady using the Diagnostic Status Export (shows data through 4:30 the previous day) or the iReady Dashboard (shows data same day).
- iReady Reading Diagnostic score
- iReady Math Diagnostic score
- Written Expression
- Characteristics of Dyslexia Screening for students falling at the 25th percentile and below or any student where parent or teacher has concerns with Reading deficits
Challenges with "placeholders"
Many of you have experienced issues related to "placeholders" last week. Please take a moment to complete this short survey to give me better insight into your experience as I have not heard from everyone. https://forms.office.com/r/k3duT9GT9d
iReady Literacy Task Entry
Encoding
I have received a lot of questions about if all students should take the Encoding measure. The answer is "no."
Taken from the 23-24 Minimum URS Matrix Grades 4-8, found on the TDOE RTI Resources Webpage:
LEAs should administer the additional subtests listed on the Minimum URS Matrix in the rows for “Reading Fluency” and “Encoding” for students identified as at risk under T.C.A. § 49-1-229 (2016 dyslexia law) or who score below the 25th percentile on the nationally normed overall composite score pursuant to the Tennessee Investment in Student Achievement and the Chapter 0520-01-22 of the State Board of Education Rules. The scores from these subtests are required to determine if a student meets criteria for an Individualized Learning Plan for Characteristics of Dyslexia, or an ILP-D.
However, if you have administered this to all students, it is still a data point that can be used to inform instructional decisions for students.
Scoring
Please capture scores for the following and place the information in your school folder in the On Target for Success SharePoint by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 30th. This allows me to be able to see where you have captured this information.
- Written Expression-use the template in the Master Templates folder
- For Kindergarten, to enter +/- and get it to show as text and not a formula, you type a single apostrophe before the plus sign and hit enter. The apostrophe will disappear and the plus or minus will remain.
- Encoding and Spelling-use a spreadsheet of your choosing to capture scores

Preparing for A+B Data Team Meetings
TDOE supports an RTI A+B approach to support students through a multi-tiered support system. You should have your data team meeting schedule planned and a copy of this placed in your school folder. For the first meeting it is going to be important to have representation from the right team members as these meetings will be rich with data points that can be used to support students both instructionally and behaviorally. TDOE provided this document to support schools with ensuring that there is appropriate representation and everyone plays a role in the decision making process.
