Superintendent's Message

Welcome Back, Post Falls Families!

As we kick off a new school year, we have so much to celebrate! For the second year in a row, Post Falls School District was ranked #1 among large school districts in Idaho for K–3 reading proficiency, as measured by the Idaho Reading Indicator (IRI).

We are also proud to recognize Post Falls High School for surpassing the state average on both the ISAT and SAT! An impressive 45% of PFHS students who took the SAT met both college and career readiness benchmarks, compared to the state average of 32%. In addition, PFHS students outperformed the state by more than 15% in English Language Arts, math, and science on the ISAT.

As always, attendance matters. Student success starts with showing up—every day counts. We encourage families to schedule appointments and vacations outside of school hours whenever possible to help our students reach their full potential.

We’re looking forward to a fantastic year ahead and are honored to partner with you in your child’s education. Thank you for your continued trust and support.

Warmly,

~ Dena Naccarato, Superintendent

Idaho Legislative Changes affecting Public Education

Under a new state law—Title 33, Section 1611A, we must obtain parents' permission before your student can participate in lessons that include content related to human development, such as reproduction, personal safety, or healthy relationships.

What Does This Mean for Your Middle or High School Student's Classes?
This requirement applies to any subject where these topics might arise—for example, a literature discussion about character relationships / attraction or a biology lesson on reproduction.

What We Need from Parents

To ensure our teachers are meeting the intent of the law, all middle and high school parents will need to sign a separate permission slip for each course in which their student is enrolled. At the secondary level this will mean signing up to six forms, each of which will be attached to the corresponding course syllabus.

If permission is not granted, your student will be provided with an alternative assignment or activity. Thank you for your support and partnership.

Questions or Feedback About This Law?
Contact your legislators: Sen. Carl J. Bjerke (CBjerke@senate.idaho.gov), Rep. Ron Mendive (RMendive@house.idaho.gov), and Rep. Tony Wisniewski (TWisniewski@house.idaho.gov).

The Child Nutrition Department offers a nutritious breakfast and lunch each school day through the National School Lunch Program. All menus adhere to nutritional standards and provide the necessary components for a healthy meal. Those students who need accommodation for a food allergy or intolerance need to have a signed statement from a physician or approved medical professional on file in the Nutritional Services Office. A monthly calendar of menus will be sent home with elementary students and may be viewed on our website at PFSD Nutritional Services.
