Scott's Branch Middle High School
"Eagle Nation" 2025-26
Welcome to the "Nest"!
From the Principal's Desk
We had another great week of teaching and learning at the Branch this week! MAP assessments and End of Course tests will be administered after the Thanksgiving break. Parents we kindly ask that you remind students to bring their school-issued device fully charged with them to school each day.
High school students currently taking English 2, US History and Biology all took home study packets to help them prepare for the upcoming EOC exams. Parents we kindly ask that you remind and encourage students to review their packets, ISN notes, and progress learning study plans/assignments. We thank you for your support as we work to guide all our students to success.
Next week there will be no school for Thanksgiving Break. We hope that everyone has a restful and restoring break. Students please take time to review notes/materials to help you prepare for your upcoming exams and assessments.
Rise up, Eagle Nation, and meet the expectation!

Teaching & Learning Highlights
Middle School - 8th Grade Career & Technology Expo
Eight graders attended the Clarendon County Career & Technology 2025 at FE DuBose Career Center. Student ambassadors from FE DuBose Career Center guided student groups to visit a variety of career and technology stations. Students were able to learn about multiple careers. We loved how well our 8th grade student body represented SBMHS today!! Great job, Eagles!! We look forward to seeing where each of your career goals will lead you in the future. We'd like to extend a special thank you to all the FE DuBose Career Center faculty/staff and student ambassadors and all the community members who shared their knowledge and expertise with our students today!
High School - English 1
Students in Mrs. Reid's English 1 class participated in the first round of their class debate competition on Wednesday. The class was divided into 4 teams. Before the debate on Wednesday, students researched the topic and prepared their arguments. The first two teams debated on whether violent video games influence behavior. Two teams shared their arguments proposing or opposing the topic. Each team's arguments were judged using a classroom debate rubric. The winning team will move forward to compete against the winner of next week's class debate. π Congratulations to Round 1's winning team, Ryan Dickey, Sincere Dixon, and Jenesis Ford. π We look forward to seeing your team at the finals. We look forward to seeing the second round of debates to find out which team will compete for the class debate champions.

It is with lots of excitement to congratulate the winner of the Fall Reading Challenge Grand Prize winner. πCongratulations to 8th grader, Amiyrah Richardson. π Amiyrah was the recipient of a McDonald's gift card. Great reading, Amiyrah!!
Genre of the Month
In order to help expose our readers to a variety of genres, we are highlighting a genre each month. Students are encouraged to stop by the library to check out the Genre of the Month feature each month.
The Genre of the Month for December is realistic fiction. A realistic fiction is a type of fiction writing that features realistic characters, settings, and events. These stories are made up, all elements of the story are believable and could happen in real life. Some examples of books that fit in this genre include: Shiloh Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, Holes by Louis Sachar, Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, Ghost by Jason Reynolds, Wonder by R.J. Palacio, and From the Desk of Zoe Washington by Janae Marks.
Library Reading Challenge
The Challenge:
From now until January 2nd, students are challenged to read 26 books from different authors. The letters of the alphabet (A to Z) stand for the first letter in the author's last name. You must READ each book (26 books total). Please be prepared to tell me about the books that you write on your log.
For example, if I read the book "The Great Mouse Detective book 1" by Eve Titus during Thanksgiving break. I would write the title of the book beside the letter "T" on my reading challenge log.
Students have between now and January 2nd to complete the challenge. All reading challenge logs must be turned in by Wednesday, January 6th in order to be entered for a chance to win the December Grand Prize. All students who participate and turn in their blue reading challenge log will receive a Eagle reader's reward, Eagle Bucks, and will be entered in the raffle for a chance to win the Grand Prize.
Reading challenge logs were given to any middle school student who wanted to begin the challenge over the Thanksgiving Break. The log will also be posted on the SB Library Legends Google Classroom. I also have more copies available in the media center.
The SBMHS teachers and staff are also welcome to join the challenge to see which teachers can read 26 books from authors A to Z. We will have a separate raffle for SBMHS teachers/staff. π π
Happy reading, Eagles!!

Social-Emotional Learning Update
Over the past two weeks, our middle school students have continued their social-emotional learning (SEL) prompts with our School Social Worker, Mrs. Butler. Students were asked to write about someone at school whom they admire, as well as list the top three things they are thankful for this holiday season and explain why.
Thank you to all students who continue to participate in our SEL writing prompts. Your creativity and strong writing skills are appreciated, and you are rewarded with Eagle Bucks for your hard work!
We look forward to continuing to enhance our SEL activities in the weeks to come.
