Winter Weather
Brrrrrr!!! Please make sure to send your students for cold weather. We will be going outside for recess unless the wind chill temperature is below 20 degrees so please make sure your students are dressed appropriately. Remember to put your child’s name on the inside of their coat in case it gets lost.
ATTENDANCE
Dear Parents,
Attendance is a key factor to having your child succeed in school. Therefore, it is very important that your child is at school on time. . . EVERYDAY. Students who miss just one or two days of school each month can fall seriously behind and lead to doing poorly in school and are more likely to not graduate. Every absence even if it is excused matters. They are missing learning when they are not here.
You are key to improving your child’s attendance.
On the flyer below there are a couple tips on how your child can be at school on time.
Sincerely,
Your Office Staff
Student and Family Liaison
Hello,
My name is Keiry Lopez , and I am the Student and Family Liaison at Adams Elementary. My role involves acting as a bridge between students, families, and the school administration to ensure effective communication and support. I work closely with students to address any academic or personal concerns they may have and provide resources to help them succeed. Additionally, I collaborate with families to keep them informed and engaged in their child's education, ensuring they have access to necessary support services and information. I am dedicated to fostering a positive and inclusive school environment where every student feels valued and supported. If you have any questions or need assistance, please feel free to reach out to me.
Best regards.
Migrant Student Advocate (MSA)
My name is Ivonne Mendez, and I am the Migrant Student Advocate (MSA) at Adams Elementary on Monday-Wednesday.
I earned a Bachelor's degree in Tourism Business Administration from CESUES University in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, where I studied from 2002 to 2007.
In August 2012, I moved to Selah, Washington, marking my first time living in the United States. My initial work experience here involved a 5-month position at an apple warehouse, followed by five years at a money transfer agency (2013–2017).
In 2018, I joined the Yakima School District. Over the years, I have had the privilege of working at several schools, including Lewis & Clark, Franklin, Barge-Lincoln, Hoover, McClure, and Adams.
As a Migrant Student Advocate, my role focuses on providing vital non-instructional support to students and their families. My key responsibilities include:
- Monitoring attendance to ensure students remain engaged in their education.
- Communicating with parents through regular phone calls to address concerns and foster collaboration.
- Assisting with health screenings, including physical and vision assessments.
- Providing glasses to students in need.
- Connecting families with essential resources and services to support their well-being and success.
The Migrant Education Program is dedicated to helping migrant children graduate from high school. To achieve this goal, we focus on building a strong foundation in elementary school, recognizing its importance in shaping students’ academic futures. If you have a migrant student in need please let me know.
Sincerely,
Ivonne Mendez
