Message from Superintendent Dr. Latrice N. Mumin

Greetings, CUSD Families!

As we settle into the fall stretch, I want to share a few quick updates to help everyone stay informed and on track.

Interim Reports

Interim reports began going home late last week and earlier this week. Please review your child’s report and use it as a checkpoint to see where they are and how we can partner together. Now is the perfect time to connect with teachers and make a plan so the first report card reflects their best work.

Families can conveniently access interim reports electronically through the PowerSchool Parent App, which provides real-time updates on grades, attendance, and overall performance.

Homecoming Weekend

Homecoming is this weekend, and we’re so excited to celebrate our scholars, alumni, and #CPride. You’ll find event details, times, and helpful guide in the sections below. Thank you in advance for helping us make it a safe, fun weekend for all.

Annual Coat Drive

Temperatures are dropping, and we’re glad to bring back our annual coat drive. Permission slips have already gone home. Please sign and return them so we can ensure any scholar who needs a winter jacket receives one. Distribution dates will be included in the letter sent home to families.

Federal Government Shutdown: What It Means for CUSD

The federal government shutdown began Wednesday, October 1, and we know some families are concerned about potential impacts on our schools. In the short term, the effect will be limited. For now, federal education funds that support programs such as Title I, special education, and early education services are not being impacted. Teaching and learning will continue as usual, and we do not anticipate day to day disruptions at this time.

If the shutdown continues for several weeks, we could begin to feel its effects more directly. While Title I and IDEA funding remain available for now, the longer-term outlook for programs like Head Start is less certain. We are monitoring the situation closely and will keep you informed. If impacts arise for students, families, or staff, we will share timely updates and resources.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. I hope you enjoy this latest edition of

Clipper Connection.

CUSD’s Closing Hispanic Heritage Month Fiesta

Chester High School capped Hispanic Heritage Month with a lively 3rd Annual Closing Fiesta on Oct. 9.

Breakfast tacos were donated by The Foundation for Delaware County’s Center for Hispanic Resources, which also tabled with community resources.

The celebration featured music, salsa lessons, decorations, and take-home treats.

Scholars created sugar skull masks and artwork with support from the Art, Special Education, Spanish, and English Learners teams, and they researched Spanish-speaking countries for posters displayed in the third-floor lobby.

Districtwide events were led by the Department of Student Success and Engagement, with STEM’s Multicultural Committee leading the Sept. 15 kickoff and Oct. 1 Family Engagement Night.

Thank you to Ms. Dana Bowser and her team, the Center for Hispanic Resources, and our scholars for making it a success.
