WMS Parent Update
Week of 9/14/26 - 9/18/26
Trojan Parents, Guardians and Students:
One of the most important lessons we can teach our students is a simple one: Your choices matter.
Every day, students make hundreds of choices—how they speak to others, how they respond when frustrated, whether they follow directions, whether they complete their work, and what they do after making a mistake. Those choices, repeated over time, begin to shape the kind of person they become.
At WMS, we expect students to be respectful, responsible, and ready to learn. But we also understand that middle school students are going to make mistakes. Growing up involves testing boundaries, making poor decisions, and occasionally getting things wrong. Our goal is not to expect perfection. Our goal is to teach students what to do after they get something wrong.
That begins with ownership.
It is easy to say, “Someone else started it,” “The teacher made me mad,” “Everyone else was doing it,” or “It wasn’t that big of a deal.” It is much harder—and much more valuable—to say, “I made that choice. I understand what happened, and I need to do better.”
That is maturity.
When adults immediately remove every consequence, excuse every mistake, or place responsibility somewhere else, we may solve an uncomfortable problem in the moment, but we also take away an opportunity for growth. Sometimes allowing a young person to experience an appropriate consequence is one of the most supportive things we can do.
As a school, we will continue to hold high expectations while also giving students opportunities to learn, repair relationships, and make better choices. We ask our families to partner with us by reinforcing the same message at home: Own your choices. Accept the consequences. Fix what you can. Then do better tomorrow.
Our students are capable of that responsibility, and they deserve caring adults who believe they are capable of it.

Athletic Update
In an effort to be more aligned with the high school athletic program, starting at the end of this semester, students will need to pass 5 of their 7 classes in order to be able to participate in the upcoming semester's sports.
Example:
- If a student fails two or more classes during a quarter, they will not be eligible to play next semester's sports.
- Students must maintain a minimum 2.0 G.P.A. overall.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact Mr. Jadwin or Mr. Kerbs at the Middle School.
