The JFDS staff had the honor of recognizing more than 70 students for their spectacular academic performance this year. Students and families were treated to performances from both the Band and Chorus along with words of wisdom from Superintendent Robinson and Ms. Brown.

Congratulations to all of the students and staff for an outstanding evening!

Step Up Events for Fifth Grade Step Up Events for Fifth Grade

JFDS holds two events in the Spring to help fifth grade students rising to sixth grade know what to expect.

  • Fairmount School students and teachers will attend Step Up Day during the day on Wednesday, June 4th. JFDS staff will meet with students to discuss expectations, student life, extra-curricular activities, and much more.
  • The same evening at 6PM, JFDS sixth grade teachers will meet with students and parents for Fifth Grade Parent Night - a reimagined version of our parent night. Students and parents will be able to hear directly from staff and ask questions in an informal setting. There might even be ice cream available : )

Still have questions? Reach out to Mrs. Reardon, the school counselor, at kreardon@bangorschools.net or call the school at (207)941-6220.

  • Students were also able to help the Cole Museum staff as they set up a memorial display.

Fields Pond Trip Fields Pond Trip

  • This spring, Fields Pond Audubon Center collaborated with our 7th-grade teachers and librarian, thanks to a grant they received from the Maine Environmental Education Association’s 2024-2025 Mini-Grant for Outdoor Learning.
  • This partnership focused on spring bird migration, a key part of the students’ 7th-grade Maine Studies, and provided an immersive, hands-on learning experience. The sessions offered an opportunity to use binoculars and view many of the birds migrating back to Fields Pond, a presentation on why Maine is nicknamed a “baby bird factory” of the United States, and life-sized game focused on the hazards birds face during their journey to and from Central and South America.
  • Students were happy to learn that Fields Pond is so close to home, with wonderful birding opportunities that is open year round! Just remember to leave your dogs at home.

JFDS Flamingo Flock JFDS Flamingo Flock

The JFDS flamingos need your help!

  • As you may know, when students return from April vacation each year, the flamingo flock appears in the Wright Garden to mark the start of Spring.
  • Our flamingos are starting to show their age and need re-stocking.
  • If you would be interested in donating a flamingo or two (or 10), please drop them off in the main office, or have them sent to Nurse Ireland at JFDS.

Help keep the tradition alive!

Chronic Absenteeism - Did You Know?

  • Chronic absenteeism occurs when a student misses 10% of the days that they are enrolled in school. In Bangor, for a student attending the entire school year, chronic absenteeism would be 17 days or an average of approximately two days per month. Chronic absenteeism is based on total absences - both excused and unexcused. We look forward to meeting our school goal of 95% attendance by June 2025!
  • Please click the link below for more information about chronic absenteeism.
