From The Principal
Happy Friday Hawkins,
We had some slippery conditions this morning, I am so glad staff and students made it safely. We had an evening PTO meeting this week. I apologize I couldn’t be there, I am wrapping up my reffing season and have a big game with two of the top teams in the state. I should be available for evening meetings from this point on. It sounds like it was a very productive meeting, so thank you. It has been a little crazy here with the snow and cold, indoor recess definitely makes a difference in our days. Here at school we have been working hard as we are closing in on the end of the second trimester. We have had a few staff changes that are not really changes. Mr. Richards will be here with us for PE for the rest of the year. Mrs. Adams decided to take the rest of the year off to be with her new baby, so Ms. McBride will continue in the room the rest of the year. She has been in the room since Ms. Adams went out and has done an amazing job. Finally, Mrs. Young is on maternity leave so Ms. Goulette has moved in and is doing a great job.
It has been exciting to see the pavilion going up. This week the roof was put on. I think this will be a great addition and can’t wait to start using it. A huge shout out to everyone who came out to Texas Roadhouse, they said it was one of their biggest events ever.! The staff was excited for today’s “Souperbowl” party. Thank you for doing this. Finally, I know a lot has been posted about buses. I want to remind everyone that the first step with buses is to contact transportation. I don’t have access to the bus videos, and I don’t assign discipline for bus incidents. I am always fine with you keeping me in the loop. Please remember what a tough job this is, I can’t imagine trying to drive a bus, and also monitor such a large number of students. I remember struggling with just my three daughters in the back seat of my car.
I wanted to give a shout out to Lisa Piegeon for making the long drive to the Scholastic Warehouse to pick up a book for the book fair. A reminder about the end of the day early pick up. I understand we all have busy lives after school, and this will increase when the spring comes. Lately we have had a large number of parents picking up 5 or 10 minutes early. This can be tricky as teachers and students are wrapping up from the day. Please try to avoid early pickups after 3:15 if at all possible. Enjoy the Superbowl Weekend. A reminder that we have no school next Friday, February 13th and the following Monday, February 16th.
Have a great weekend!
Mr. McAuliffe

Hawkins Book Fair
A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR PARENT VOLUNTEERS AND TEACHERS WHO PLAYED A PART IN MAKING OUR SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR AN ENORMOUS SUCCESS! A special thanks to all of the families who donated to our share the fair fund so that all of our students were able to take home something special! My heart is bursting! Mrs. Wells
Thanks To All Our Book Fair Volunteers
ELA Update
Our district is continuing the process of piloting new ELA (English Language Arts) resources K-5 to ensure we are providing the strongest literacy instruction for our students moving forward. During this time, some classrooms may be using different instructional programs or materials. This is a normal and crucial part of the pilot process and will not disrupt student learning. Our teachers play an important role in this work and have strong ownership in the process, using their professional expertise to select and implement strategies that best meet the needs of their students. All instruction remains aligned to grade-level standards and focused on building strong reading and writing skills. Thank you for your continued support as we work to strengthen literacy instruction for all students!
Hawkins Career Exploration
It's time for our 2nd Annual Hawkins Career Exploration! We are so excited for this opportunity to help our students learn about our 5 careers this year!
- STEAM: Paleontology
- Health Science: Veterinary
- Architecture: Building/Construction/Design
- Public Safety: Military
- Arts, AV/Tech, Communications: Photography
As a volunteer, you will cover a station focusing on these categories and have information provided to you, so no pressure to be an expert in the field :)
Chorus Update
Hawkins Chorus had a busy week! This past Friday they sang The National Anthem at the Varsity Basketball Game for Youth Night. Then on Wednesday they attended Vocal Arts Day at the High School. Below is a video of the final performance of "Sisi NiMoja".

Thank You PTO!
Virtual Tutoring Opportunity Grades 2 - 8: Reading or Math
For the past few years, Brighton Area Schools have offered invite only Virtual Tutoring for students who may need additional support in reading or math (based on assessment data). This winter, we have a limited number of seats available for additional students in grades 2 - 8 to take advantage of this program.
This 10-week structured program will provide high-dosage one-on-one online tutoring with a live teacher (provided by our partner, Littera) two times per week for 30 minutes utilizing high quality online content. The Virtual Tutoring runs from February 17 through May 1. When registering, families will be able to pick the days and times that work best for them.
This is a virtual program; therefore, students will meet with their live teacher online for only 30 minutes a day, two times per week. Based on the online nature of the program, students can connect from wherever they have internet access.
Complete: Winter Virtual Tutoring Interest Form to express interest in participating in this program. Please complete the form for your student as soon as possible and on or before Friday, January 30, 2026 to express your interest in this opportunity. Space is limited.
Please click on: Informational flyer for details or Littera for additional information about our tutoring services provider.
Just-In-Case Clothes
Please make sure your child has an extra set of clothes in their backpack. Accidents happen while your child is at school (bathroom accidents, playground mishaps, lunchroom spills, ripped or torn clothes, etc.) and we do not have extra clothes to lend out. Having an extra set here at school saves parents from having to make a trip to Hawkins during the day. We appreciate your help!
