The Media/Tech Minute
Shelf Life and Tech Tips in the Hawks' Nest
Thankful for Books and Digital Resources!
November is going to be a CRAZY month in the library, so buckle up! Because of my meeting schedule, along with shelves being removed and then new shelves being installed AND a conference and a book fair on top of that, I am going to send out a sign-up simply for times that ARE available for checkouts this month. We will not have classes as normal, because I could not get through a full rotation of classes given everything that is happening. I apologize for the schedule changes, but appreciate your understanding. Mr. Daniels may be able to provide some additional open circulation times as he is able, and my new morning volunteer may also be able to provide some open circulation times on Wednesday mornings, but we will email out those changes as they come. The open circulation times with my afternoon volunteer, Ms. Debbie, are in the schedule below.

Battle of the Books Update
Our Battle of the Books team had our first meeting on Thursday, October 26th, and we are SO excited to welcome our 28 excited young readers to the team! Remember--we can only take 12 students to competition, so these students should be diligently reading the Battle of the Books titles each week and attending as many practices as possible.
Here is the book list. It is recommended that they read each book at least once, preferably more than once, to ensure the information "sticks", so getting an early start is a HUGE benefit! You can also send them down to me if they have questions. We will have an interest meeting this month to begin our team, just like we did last year, and I'll share that info via ClassDojo and social media when the time comes. Thanks!
School News Team
Our news team is up and running! Please help your students remember to arrive on time. Latecomers do not get their preferred jobs, and it delays production, so we appreciate everyone on news team getting to the newsroom at 7:30.
Be sure to follow our NES News Team channel for the latest news episodes. We also post the most recent episodes on our school website.
The News Team Schedule for November is below:
Oct. 30-Nov. 3: Team 8
Nov. 6-10: Team 1
Nov. 13-17: Team 2
Nov. 20-24: Team 3
Nov. 27-Dec. 1: Team 4
Podcasting Club
We also got a grant for a set of 30 podcast listening devices called "The Walking Classroom"! For more info and training on how to get started with this, please reach out to me so I can help you get started. This is a really cool way to get kids up out of their chairs and classrooms, being physically active while also learning grade level content. It includes quizzes, supplemental slides, and teacher guides for each episode to make this a really easy thing to add to your regular instruction. Check out this link for more details!
Tech Tidbits...
Staff Survey:
Mr. Daniels and I are working to create some great tech PD opportunities for our staff, but we want to make sure what we are offering is what you actually WANT, so please fill out this short survey so we know what you want and need for this year! CLICK HERE

November Novel Effect Ideas
This app is something kids request me to use again and again, so I'm sharing this month's suggested Novel Effect read alouds. It is also linked to a Canva template if you want to change any of the books on the list and add in your own suggestions based on books you want to read aloud or share with students. Below is a suggested calendar schedule of some great choices. Check it out!
