Creative Cardboard Haunted House Contest 👻
Sponsored by the MM ITC
WHO: All MM students, parents/guardians & staff are invited to create their own, original, handmade haunted house, at home, using cardboard for the structure and any non-edible decorations to embellish the house and base. MM staff are welcome to participate in their own separate category, as well. YES, you may work in teams!
WHEN: Houses need to be submitted by Friday, Oct. 23rd. Entries will not be accepted after this time to allow for judging. The houses will be on display, for voting, the week of Oct. 26th. Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places on Wednesday, Oct. 28th.
Guidelines and Regulations:
All entries MUST NOT contain any edible items and the main construction of the house must be made of cardboard. Premade houses are not permitted.
Place your name or group names on the UNDERSIDE of the base, names can’t be visible for voting purposes.
All entries must be entered into the contest by 4:00 pm on Friday, Oct. 23rd
All entries must be picked up by 4:00 pm on Friday, Nov. 6th, all houses left will be discarded
Need Cardboard? There will be a limited supply in the library starting October 1st, first-come, first-served and no holds!

Career Day
Share your career and business with our 8th graders!
We are excited to share a new addition to our 8th-grade programming this year! In January, Marie Murphy students will join 8th graders from Central School and Sunset Ridge for the Glencoe Career Day. This special event will give students the opportunity to explore a variety of career paths, connect with local professionals, and learn about businesses and industries that may inspire their futures.
The first step is inviting YOU, our community, to be part of this experience! We are looking for parents and community members who would be interested in representing their businesses or professions by hosting a station at Career Day. Students will have the opportunity to visit these stations, interact with professionals, ask questions, and learn firsthand about different careers and industries.
If you are interested in participating and helping inspire our future workforce, please see the information below. We would love to have our Marie Murphy community represented at this exciting event!

11th Annual International Dinner & Talent Show
Help Support the 8th Grade Class of 2027!
Avoca West and Marie Murphy are hosting a Community Book Drive for Bernie's Book Bank and we need your help! Please donate new or gently used children’s books. Bernie's accepts new and gently used children’s books for children from birth through sixth grade reading level. Bernie's loves all books- fiction, non-fiction, chapter books, picture books and everything in between! Please no textbooks, dictionaries, activity books, coloring books, reference material or religious books.

Absent & Tardy Notifications
If you are signed up to receive alerts from PowerSchool, you may also get notifications when your child is marked absent or tardy in the system. Our protocol is to go through the sign-in list and edit accordingly, throughout the month. If you notice an error, please email parkm@avoca37.org and broadcrawfordl@avoca37.org and your student's attendance will be edited per state guidelines.
