Please read through this Newsletter as there is lots of summer information for you.

Please pick up any medications (OTC, prescription, inhalers, epi-pens) from the nurse's office by 2:00 PM May 27th. Anything after that will be disposed of and destroyed. They MUST be picked up by a parent and signed for. WE CANNOT SEND THEM HOME WITH STUDENTS

If you have not yet registered a student online please do so as soon as possible. These instructions are for those who do not have a current parent portal. This applies mainly to students who attended kindergarten during the 2021-22 school year and do not already have an older sibling who is in the system.

1. Go to www.themitchellkernels.com
2. Click on "New to the district registration"
3. Complete the information. Include ALL children in the household, even ones too young for school.
4. You may be asked for an Activation Key. This is also called a GUID key. If you do not have it, please call the office at 605-995-3092.

If you have not yet registered your student online, please do so as soon as possible. These instructions are for those you have a parent portal account alead,y but simply need to update and register for next year.

1. Go to www.themitchellkernels.com
2. Click on 'Parents"
3. Click on 'Parent Portal'
4. Log in-you can request a new password if you don't remember. Passwords are not saved anywhere and we do not know them.
5. Click on the 'More' tab on the left hand side.
6. Click 'Annual Information update'
7. Click on 'Existing Student Registration'
8. Fill out and click 'Submit'

The office at Longfellow will be open May 23-June 3rd from 8:00 am-2:00 pm. We will close over the summer and be open again August 3rd from 9:00 am-3:00 pm. The phones will be checked on a regular basis over the summer, so please leave a message. 605-995-3092. However, if you need to register your child for school or you know of someone who needs to, they should contact the district registrar right away at 605-995-7606.

Please have your child check Lost and Found as anything left after May 27th will be donated. There are lots of hats, gloves, hoodies, etc.

Congratulations to Longfellow Lion, Gabby Garrels, on receiving the Longfellow Scholarship. We are proud of you, Gabby, and wish you the best as you start the next chapter!

Ms. Jean Patrick came to speak with our lions about Mitchell Public Library's Summer Reading Program. Please see the information below regarding their reading program. Your kids won't want to miss out on the fun!

The Mitchell School District, The Caring Closet, Harve's Sport Shop, and Sun Gold Sports, have recognized students for going above-and-beyond helping classmates, showing kindness to others at school, and having a positive attitude. While many of our lions could have received this award, the following students were chosen to receive a special t-shirt. All 5th grade band members from Longfellow, LB Williams and Gertie Belle Rogers practiced together and performed. What a fun sneak peak at what will become the Mitchell Middle School band.

If you attended the 5th grade band concert, you know tat Mr. Stahle talked about and the direct link to register if your child is interested in playing in either or both of the summer bands.

There is no cost to participate, and this will be a cool experience to get to play with older students and work with Mr. Stahle and Mr. Van Peursem! What a great opportunity to have fun making music this summer!

As we all look forward to a summer of fun, memories and relaxation, the staff of Longfellow will look forward to seeing you all again in August.

If you know of anyone who moves to town during the summer, please make sure they contact our district registrar, Erica, who works at the McTea building (across the street from the high school). The sooner they contact Erica, the sooner we can get them in the system so we're ready for each and every student on day one!

As our 5th graders prepared to move on from Longfellow, they each wrote what they wanted to be when they grow up. We have future veterinarians, farmers, NFL players, Youtubers, etc. However, one young man wants to be Someone Who Changes The World.

That is our wish for each and every 5th grader. Go forward and be someone who makes a positive difference. Love others, help others, be grateful, and work hard. None of those things cost you a dime. We have no doubt you will change the world! You are always a lion and you are always loved!
