A Message from Mr. Chesser A Message from Mr. Chesser

Hello Bear Families!

Let me start by reminding you that this is a holiday weekend, and WE DO NOT HAVE SCHOOL ON MONDAY! You can come, but you will be stuck outside.

Labor Day is a great early-year school holiday. The first few weeks of school can be tiring as students and staff adjust to the routines of school after a summer of lounging, swimming, and vacationing. It’s nice to get that one extra-long weekend day to catch a few extra hours of sleep, knock out some of those errands you keep putting off, take a trip to the lake, visit friends or family, or just get away for a few days.

Whatever you have planned this weekend, my wish for you is simple: get a little rest and have a little fun. You’ve earned both!

We’ll see you on Tuesday!

New information this week includes: the rescheduled 6th Grade Meet the Teacher Night, our PB&J competition, and information on how to livestream MISD sporting events.

Proud to serve Montgomery Junior High,

Tim Chesser

Principal

September Value of the Month: Friendship

This month, our school community is focusing on the core value of Friendship. During our Advisory classes on September 14th and 28th, students will explore what it takes to build stronger, healthier, and longer-lasting connections with their peers.

To help our students better understand themselves and each other, our lessons will focus on two key areas:

  • Understanding Connection: Students will use the 5 Love Languages quiz for teens to discover how they and their peers give and receive appreciation—whether through words of affirmation, quality time, receiving gifts, acts of service, or physical touch (like high-fives and fist bumps). Understanding different personalities and how others feel valued is a powerful tool for deepening friendships.
  • Navigating Conflict: We will also explore conflict management styles, helping students identify their own default approach to disagreements and learn strategies for resolving issues constructively.

How You Can Help at Home: We encourage you to keep the conversation going! Ask your student what they discovered about their love language and how they handle disagreements. Discussing how different personalities operate at home is a great way to reinforce these valuable life skills.

Why Strong Connections Matter in Junior High

  • Boosts Emotional Support: Positive peer relationships give teens a safe space to share experiences and manage stress.
  • Improves Academic Engagement: Students who feel connected and supported at school perform better in the classroom.
  • Builds Life Skills: Navigating peer dynamics teaches empathy, active listening, and healthy conflict resolution that lasts a lifetime.

Thank you for partnering with us as we help our students grow both academically and socially!
