New Episodes for You! The Voyage & Profile of a Viking
The Voyage gives you a first-class ticket to the HF experience.
How much do you know about Chicago footwork? On this week's episode of The Voyage, our Vikings got a firsthand lesson from HF Instructional Assistant Jaron Boyd on this dance style that originated in Chicago in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Check out the moves they learned while learning some close-to-home Black history.
Profile of a Viking with HF Social Worker Heithon Hurdle
We're back with another episode of our Profile of a Viking series, this week featuring HF Social Worker Heithon Hurdle on Communication & Collaboration.
"If you're able to communicate, and you're able to collaborate with people, it's a lot of things that you can get done. It's important--if you don't have good relationships around the school building with the students then nothing can really get done," he says. Check it out here.
Read Students' Black History Month Poetry
Looking for some more Black History Month reads? Take some time to enjoy some HF student poetry from our EDDA Literary Magazine site. Latest poems include "Black" by Junior LaNiya Whitlock and “Brother Brown” by Senior Mason Black. Check them out here.
Students Take an "Empathy Walk": BC2M Spirit Week
Last semester, HF welcomed its new program, Bring Change 2 Mind (BC2M), for students to promote and discuss mental health, as well as plan worthwhile mental health awareness events throughout the school year.
This week is Bring Change 2 Mind Spirit Week! Students got a chance yesterday to enjoy the Spring-like weather during their Compass period: They took an "empathy walk" with their peers, asking questions to better know each other. As the time wrapped up, students got creative and wrote what they learned about one another and took from the time together.
BC2M is a national organization that promotes mental health and wellness. We're excited to continue each day's activities to bring mental health to light. Join us--let's be WELL together.
Special Olympics Hosts Respect Week
Each year, schools across Illinois celebrate Respect Week. This celebration is derived from the Spread the Word Campaign that originally worked to promote the end of using derogatory terms to describe people with disabilities. This campaign now focuses on inclusion for people with disabilities. In Illinois, we celebrate Respect for All-no matter the disability, gender, race, etc.-each year to promote respect.
Girls' Basketball Wraps Up Outstanding Season
Clap it up for our Varsity Girls' Basketball team: The Vikings wrapped up their impressive season in Monday night's sectional championship game against Nazareth Academy. Although they fell short 48-32, they're still champs in our eyes!
Check out the feature from Southtown Sports here.

Sophomores & Juniors: Don't Miss These College Visits
The Guidance Office is hosting college reps visiting with our students during the spring semester!
Please have your child log onto SchooLinks to register. Once logged in (they log in with their HF Gmail account), they will simply click on "School Events", where they will see the list of colleges signed up. They can click on the college that they are interested in visiting. After that, click on "register for this event", and that's it!
Please have your child make sure that they discuss this with their teacher whose class they're missing and ask for a pass for the day they will be meeting with the college rep.
