The Elgin ISD Board of Trustees voted to name Dr. Christopher Bailey the lone finalist for superintendent at its special called board meeting on Aug. 10, 2026.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Christopher Bailey to Elgin ISD,” Board of Trustees President Byron Mitchell said. “We believe he brings a wealth of experience to the position and is a great fit for our community. We’re excited to watch him lead our Wildcats toward new possibilities.”

By law, the Board of Trustees must now wait 21 days before voting to hire Bailey as EISD’s new superintendent.

Bailey currently serves as superintendent of Goldthwaite Consolidated Independent School District and has been a Texas public school educator for more than 20 years. Prior to his tenure in Goldthwaite, Dr. Bailey served in Abilene ISD as executive director for Student Supports and as a campus principal. He also served as principal and director of bands in Katy ISD.

Dr. Bailey has worked alongside teams in Goldthwaite CISD to increase funding through the Teacher Incentive Allotment, as well as other strategic initiatives to expand student learning opportunities in curricular programs, extracurricular programs and career and technical education (CTE) pathways. He also has led strategic planning teams in all three districts where he has served.

Dr. Bailey holds a doctorate in educational leadership from Baylor University and completed his master’s degree at Baylor and his bachelor’s degree at Stephen F. Austin State University.

“I am humbled and excited for the opportunity to work alongside the Elgin community in preparing each student in our care for the future they deserve and desire," Dr. Bailey said. "I am committed to leading the team of dedicated educators in Elgin ISD through the challenges and celebrations that lie ahead. Just like my own three children, I will work tirelessly for the well-being of each of our Wildcat children."

The EISD Board of Trustees has followed a lengthy process in selecting the finalist. In May, the Board hired the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Executive Search Services to lead the search. TASB consultants met with staff and community groups over the summer to discuss the leadership qualities desired in the new superintendent. The profile developed from these meetings served as the tool used by the Board and consultants to evaluate applicants for the position.

Dr. Bailey was selected from a pool of more than 40 applicants for Elgin’s top Wildcat. The Board is scheduled to vote on a contract for Dr. Bailey in September.

Dr. Bailey and his family will be relocating to Elgin.
