CES Cubs News
October 24th - November 7th
Dear Cubs Families,
As we continue moving through the school year, I want to take a moment to thank our Cullen families for your continued support and partnership. Every day, our Cubs are learning, growing, and discovering what they are capable of, and we couldn't do it without you! We know that raising and educating children takes a team, and we are grateful to be part of your child's journey. Together, we are building confident, caring, and resilient Cubs who are ready to make a difference in the world. Thank you for being such an important part of our Cullen family!
Warm regards,
Elizabeth Lara
Principal, Cullen Elementary

Updates
Please do not allow your child to get off of the car until the bell rings and you see an adult. Students have been getting out early and are being left unattended. Our staff does not come on contract until 7am and therefore is not out there prior to that.
No ID, No Ride:
Beginning Monday, students must have an ID to ride the bus in the afternoon. Students without an ID will not be allowed to ride the bus and will need to be picked up from school. Please ensure that your students have their ID attached to their backpacks so they may ride the bus in the afternoon. If an ID is needed to be replaced, there is a cost of $5.00 per ID that is printed.
Dress Code Reminder
As a friendly reminder, Hays CISD has a very relaxed dress code that allows students the freedom to express themselves through their clothing. However, we have recently noticed an increase in clothing choices that are pushing the boundaries of our district's dress code.
We are seeing more students wearing tops that expose excessive midriff, sheer or transparent clothing, and shorts, skirts, or tops that do not provide adequate coverage when students bend over, sit, or move throughout the day.
While we want our Cubs to feel comfortable and confident in what they wear, we also need to ensure that clothing provides appropriate coverage throughout the school day, not just when standing upright.
We kindly ask parents to help us by checking that their child's clothing provides adequate coverage when sitting, bending, and participating in everyday school activities. Our goal is not to limit personal style but to maintain a comfortable and appropriate learning environment for all students.
Thank you for partnering with us and helping our Cubs make great choices! We appreciate your continued support! 💙💛
Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)
Dia de los Muertos takes place on November 1st and 2nd. This tradition is meant to celebrate the lives of those that are no longer with us. Traditionally November 1st is used to celebrate the lives of deceased children and November 2nd is used to celebrate the lives of deceased adults. Part of this tradition is to make an ofrenda (altar) that includes pictures of those you want to remember along with candles, special food, and whatever they enjoyed when they were alive.
As a school we will have an ofrenda and will be inviting our students to bring in pictures of those they would like to celebrate; this includes pets. The picture must not be bigger than a 4x6. Unfortunately, we will not be able to return the pictures as they will be glued on to our display. If you would like your student to participate, please send a copy of your desired picture beginning on Monday, October 19th.
The ofrenda will be located in our front lobby area.
Please have your pictures in no later than Monday, October 26th.

Opportunity for Current 4th grade Students that Did Not Pass STAAR
TEA is pleased to announce that Parent Access to Supplemental Supports (PASS) applications, established under House Bill 2 in the 89th Legislature, are now open. PASS accounts are available for students who received a score of “Did Not Meet Grade Level" on the grade 3 Reading Language Arts (RLA) STAAR assessment beginning in spring 2026. Through PASS, eligible families receive a $400 account to purchase literacy tutoring services from TEA approved providers, including brick-and-mortar tutors, virtual tutors, or approved educators like TIA designated teachers or Certified Academic Language Therapists. Parents can apply today by creating an account on the PASS website. School systems are required to notify families of eligible students about this opportunity, and TEA has made several resources available to support outreach.

Fall Scholastic Book Fair
Our Fall Scholastic Book Fair is on the horizon and will take place the week of November 16th - 20th. We are in need of lots of great parent volunteers in order to make the book fair a success. Please take a look at our sign-up genius and sign up to volunteer for a shift!
During the book fair, students will be able to shop on their own during the school day. Parents and families will be able to shop each afternoon from 3:15 - 3:45, Monday - Thursday. They will also be able to shop after attending Thanksgiving lunch with their child on Nov. 18th. Or, families can shop at our fun family night Thursday, the 19th from 5:00 - 7:00. More information on these great events to come!
eWallets are online funds that can be set up for your student to use at the book fair when they shop on their own during the school day. eWallets can be set up here:

Hays CISD Gifted and Talented Referral Period Opens for
Kindergarten - 11th Grade Students
Students who participate in services designed for gifted/talented students will demonstrate skills in self-directed learning, thinking, research, and communication. These skills are often evidenced by the development of innovative products and performances that reflect individuality and creativity. Furthermore, these skills are advanced in relation to students of similar age, experience, or environment.
Hays CISD campuses will accept referrals for gifted and talented services from October 1 - 31. Referrals can be made in two different ways. The first option is to complete an online referral at THIS LINK.. The second option is to complete a paper referral. Copies of the paper referral form are available in the front office of each campus and should be returned to the campus counselor.
Assessments will be conducted from November through January. Evaluation of student data and selection of services occurs in February. Parents are notified by email in March of the final determination of services.
Parents who could not attend yesterday's meeting Here is the presentation
