April 2024
A Message from our Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope this newsletter finds you all in good health and high spirits as we enter into the bustling month of April. As always, there are many exciting events and important dates to mark on your calendars, so let's dive right in!
State ISASP Testing: Grades 3 through 5 will be gearing up for the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP) on April 16, 17, 18, 23, and 24. This assessment covers a range of subjects including reading, writing, and math for all grades, with an additional science component for our fifth graders. To ensure your children are well-prepared, please take the time to talk to them about doing their best, maintaining good attendance, building test stamina, eating a healthy breakfast, and getting a good night's sleep. These simple steps can make a big difference in their performance and overall well-being during testing.
Conditions for Learning Survey: From April 8 to 12, students in grades 3 through 5 will also be participating in a survey called Conditions for Learning. This survey, although not academic in nature, is equally important as it provides valuable insights into the social and emotional aspects of our students' learning environments. More information about this survey will be communicated by the district, so please stay tuned for updates.
Report Cards and Elevate Church Coffee: Report cards for the third quarter will be sent home in Friday folders on April 5. We encourage you to review these carefully and celebrate your child's progress. Additionally, Elevate Church will be offering coffee at the curb for parents on April 8, providing a warm and welcoming start to the week.
Music Programs: We're excited to showcase the musical talents of our students! Music programs will be held on April 9 for grades K-2 and April 10 for grades 3-5. Each grade will have its own performance lasting about half an hour. We look forward to seeing you there to support our budding musicians.
Kindergarten Registration and West Middle School Tour: Kindergarten registration will take place on April 12. Present kindergarteners will not have school that day, except for those enrolled in special programs. Additionally, on April 30, our fifth graders will have the opportunity to tour West Middle School, providing them with a glimpse of their exciting future ahead.
Phew, it's certainly going to be a busy month packed with opportunities for our students to shine and for us to come together as a community. Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Warm regards,
Tami Voegeli
Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten registration is scheduled for April 12. We are anxious to identify children eligible to begin Kindergarten in August. To be eligible for Kindergarten, your child must be five (5) years old on or before September 15, 2024, and they need to have completed the required immunizations.
Perhaps you know of other children in the Loess Hill’s neighborhood who may be eligible to enter kindergarten next fall. Please share our information with them and have them call the office at 712-279-6843 to register their child.

Box Tops - New Scanning Feature
Eventually the Box Tops program will become digital-only. Participating brands are starting to change their packaging from a traditional Box Tops clip to the new Box Top label.
If you see this label, use the new Box Tops app to scan your receipt. Box Tops are still worth 10¢ each for Loess Hills. The app will find participating products purchased at any store and instantly add cash to our school's earnings online.

Eligible receipts for groceries, prescriptions, floral, photoshop, and catering are accepted.
