From the Senior Leadership Team – Term 1, Week 1

Term 1, Week 1: Nau mai, haere mai!

A Warm Welcome to the 2026 School Year

Kia ora koutou,

On behalf of the Senior Leadership Team, it is an absolute pleasure to welcome you all to the new academic year at Takapuna Normal Intermediate School.

The first week of intermediate is always a milestone—a mix of nerves, excitement, and the beginning of new friendships. To our returning Year 8 families, welcome back; we look forward to seeing you step into your roles as student leaders. To our new Year 7 whānau, we are thrilled to have you join our vibrant IB World School community.

Our corridors are once again buzzing with energy, and our focus for the first few weeks is Whanaungatanga (relationship-building). We are dedicated to ensuring every learner feels a sense of belonging as they settle into their new routines and classroom environments.

Stay Connected: The TNIS School App

With so much happening in the first few weeks, staying informed is vital. The SchoolAppsNZ app is our primary tool for school-wide communication, urgent alerts, and daily notices.

Why you need it:

  • Instant Alerts: Receive push notifications for bus delays, trip updates, or emergency notices.

  • Absences: Report student absences quickly and easily.

  • Newsletters & Notices: Access all school communications in one central place.

  • Links: Fast access to the Kindo shop and school calendar.

Download the App here: https://tnis.apps.school.nz/install/

Tip: Ensure you select the correct "Alert Groups" (e.g., Year 7 or Year 8) in the app settings to receive notifications relevant to your child.

Action Required: EOTC Days (Vector Wero & Tree Adventures)

Our Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) trips are fast approaching; these days are vital for building team spirit and resilience early in the term.

  • Year 7s & 8s: Will be heading to Vector Wero Whitewater Park and Tree Adventures very shortly.

  • Permissions: Your child’s classroom teacher should have already contacted you via email with the specific trip dates, gear lists, and one digital and one hard-copy permission form.

  • Deadline: Please ensure these forms are completed as a priority so your child doesn't miss out on these incredible experiences.

  • All payments for EOTC can be made through your child’s Kindo account.

If you haven’t received an email from your classroom teacher yet, please check your junk folder or contact them directly.

Save the Date: TNIS Whānau Picnic Night - including classroom teacher and sports presentations.

We believe that a strong partnership between home and school is the key to learner success. To start the year in a relaxed, family-friendly way, we invite you all to our Whānau Picnic Night.

  • When: Friday, 20th February (Week 3)

  • Time:

    • 4:30 - 5:00 pm - Classroom Teacher presentations about the Classroom Programme.

    • 5:00 - 5:30 pm - Sports Presentation in the Hall - For those with a strong interest in sports. The Specialist Classrooms will also be open at this time. Please feel free to pop in.

    • 5:30 Onwards - Picnic Evening with Double Dutch Fries, Scrunchy Miller and a Coffee Cart

  • Where: School Grounds

This is a fantastic opportunity to meet your child’s teacher, see their classroom, and connect with other families in your child's team. There will be no parking at the school for this event.

We are looking forward to a year of growth, inquiry, and achievement. Thank you for entrusting us with your child's education during these transformative intermediate years.

Ngā mihi nui
