A Note From Your PrinciPAL

Welcome back! I hope your Fall Break was outstanding!

As we roll into our next nine-week period, I hope you are feeling refreshed and excited about all that lies ahead for our Eagles! A few updates and friendly reminders are listed below. Please read and stay informed:

Friendly Reminder: Cell Phones & Other Smart Devices

Henry County Schools has adopted Policy JCDAF, which outlines expectations for student use of electronic devices on school property. This policy is also supported by Georgia legislation, including HB 1009 and HB 340.

At East Lake, we are committed to helping our students stay focused, engaged, and ready to learn through our Focus initiative. To support this effort, students are not permitted to display or use cell phones, smartwatches, or other electronic communication devices during the school day.

What does this mean for our Eagles?

  • Cell phones and smart devices brought to school must remain powered OFF, stored in a backpack, and out of sight throughout the school day.

  • Students may not carry these devices on their person, in a purse, on their wrist, or in any other manner that makes them accessible during the school day.

  • These expectations also apply during school transportation events.

We appreciate your partnership in helping us minimize distractions and maximize learning time for every student. By working together, we can ensure our Eagles remain focused on what matters most: learning, growing, and achieving success!

Fundraiser News:

Typically, this is the time of year when we begin preparing for our annual Boosterthon fundraiser. However, we’re switching things up this year, and we are SO excited about what’s coming! 🎉

You’ll soon receive more information about our new school fundraiser, which promises some exciting surprises for our students! Even better, this new approach will allow East Lake to retain more of the funds we raise to support our students and school, rather than paying the large administrative fees associated with the Booster program.

We have just a few details left to finalize, but stay tuned because more information is coming SOON! 😊 I can’t wait to share what we have planned!

Asynchronous Learning Day: November 3

Please be aware that our next Asynchronous Learning Day is scheduled for Tuesday, November 3. The district calendar is available here. Fun fact: The drafted calendar for our next 2027 - 2028 school year is already available! Use that to plan ahead for vacations and such!

I look forward to seeing your student(s) tomorrow morning!!!

World Mental Health Day:

On Monday, October 12, we’re wearing shades of green to support World Mental Health Day! Mental health is about how we feel, think, and take care of ourselves. It’s important to help our Eagles remember that everyone has feelings, and it’s okay to ask for help when we need it. 💚

Students may join us by wearing green as we remind each other to be kind, check in, and support one another!

🦅 Support and SOAR: The YOU Belong Video Challenge

For the month of October, we’re celebrating what it means to feel SUPPORTED! We want to see our Eagles in action, showing kindness, encouragement, inclusion, and SOARing behavior that helps others feel valued and that they belong. We are doing a schoolwide challenge for students and staff, but I wanted to extend the challenge to our families as well!

Please see the flyer below and if interested-you may send a shout out to a staff member who you feel has supported you and your Eagle this year!

Show us how YOU feel supported at East Lake! 🦅

Together we support. Together we SOAR!

Be Here to Hear It! (Attendance Matters!) Be Here to Hear It! (Attendance Matters!)

PLEASE READ THE FULL MESSAGE

We had a great month celebrating daily attendance with our “Be Here to Hear It” campaign! Thank you for prioritizing attendance and helping our Eagles soar! 🦅

We are currently tied for 1st place with Ola among elementary schools! Let’s keep the momentum going!

Please help us maintain our strong attendance by ensuring your student is at school and seated in class, ready to learn by 7:35 a.m. each day, unless they are experiencing a fever, dia-rah-rah, or vomiting that makes attending school inappropriate - we don't want to spread germs!

On that note, please remember that if your child experiences any of those things, they should be kept AT HOME for 24 hours AFTER their last fever or episode of dia-rah-rah or vomiting occurs. PLEASE do not medicate your child to mask symptoms and send them to school. While attendance is important, we also want to prevent the spread of germs if we can help it!

Every student matters here, and every moment counts! Thank you for partnering with us to make every learning moment count for our Eagles! 💙

Backpack Food Program

We have community partners that donate food bags for students to take home on Fridays. Bags are given out discreetly to students. If you have a need and would like your child to receive a bag once the program begins (usually late August), please contact Ms. Rivers or Ms. Perro.

Help Our 5th Graders

As part of our 4H work, 5th grade is collecting silver poptabs for a good cause (The Ronald McDonald House)! There is a class competition at the 4H level, but all donations from other grade levels will be split between the 5 classes to turn in. It's a win-win, really! East Lake loves to be the best in all things...so if you can help us out, we'd be most grateful!

🚌 If your child rides the bus...join REMIND!

As a service to our families, Ms. Varian has created a Bus Remind to provide you with the pertinent details regarding bus transportation that is specific to your child's route.

We encourage you to sign up for the Remind group for your child’s bus only. We will use this platform to share important transportation updates, changes, and information as it becomes available.

Thank you for partnering with us to help keep our families informed and our students’ transportation experience running smoothly! 🦅

Administrator Contacts

As we journey through the year, if you have questions about grades, instruction, or other classroom-specific matters, please reach out directly to your child’s teacher. Barring unusual circumstances, you can expect a response within 24 business hours. (I fully encourage—and actually prefer—that our teachers disconnect on weekends and school holidays to recharge and rest.)

If you have questions or concerns that extend beyond the classroom, please don’t hesitate to contact us at the school. We’re here to support you and your child every step of the way.

Emotional Wellness with our Counselors

This year, students are practicing emotional awareness through the Zones of Regulation during counseling lessons. This program teaches kids how to identify their feelings and manage them constructively.

How to support this at home:

  • Ask about their zone: Check in periodically by asking, "What color zone are you in right now?"

  • Practice coping strategies: Work together to find healthy tools (like deep breathing, taking a quiet break, or drawing) to help them shift between zones.

  • Normalize all feelings: Remind them that every zone is okay to experience, but some zones require extra support to manage safely.

A Friendly Reminder from Your Clinic Aide, Ms. Patel 💗

Students may not carry medication in their backpacks, pockets, or otherwise.

If your child needs medication during the day, they must have a form on file AND all meds must be stored in the clinic. An adult must report to the front office with the medication.

If you have questions, please contact Ms. Patel by calling our front office or by sending her an email: alpa.patel@henry.k12.ga.us.
