Frog Pond SchoolNewsletter 1/2022Volume 21-22 Issue 5

Tom Denning, Principal

Hello Frog Pond Family!

It’s hard to believe that we are almost halfway through the school year! I am pleased to say that with all of the challenges this year has brought, the students have been amazing! Getting to see first hand the collaboration of staff and the teamwork of our students has been a pleasure!

There are some exciting things happening at Frog Pond and more to come. To finish the month of January, our 6th Graders had the opportunity for several days in the star lab during their Science classes. Looking ahead, our Candy Gram sales are always popular and on sale until February 8th. They will be delivered on February 11th to all who purchased, and all proceeds support our 6th grade field trip.

February 17th will be the 100th day of school, and we look forward to seeing everyone dressed like they are 100 years old! Our PTO will hold it’s very popular Candy Bar Bingo on Friday, February 18th, and look for our flyer for the February spirit days on 2/16, 2/22 & 2/23! Also, The Frog Pond Inventor’s Fair will take place in school on 2/24, 2/25, & 2/26.

Our positive behavior program continues and the students look forward to collecting tickets based on their good behavior! All of our photos are shared each month in this Frog Pond newsletter and on the Frog Pond Elementary Class Dojo.

Thank you for your continued support!

Sincerely,

Thomas P. Denning

Principal

Sixth Grade Science Sixth Grade Science

All 6th grade science classes took part in StarLab this week. StarLab is a portable planetarium and our 6th grade students had the opportunity to identify patterns in the night sky and understand how Earth's motion causes the stars and planets to appear to move in the night sky. The students also got to hear stories from ancient cultures and understand how the ancients used what they saw in the night sky to travel and explain their understanding of things in their world.

This month in STEAM the 3rd graders made sleds to hold snowmen to go down our classroom slide that happens to be a yellow slide. We had a contest to see who went the fastest. The 4th graders made earthquake proof skyscrapers that were tested on a shake table. The 5th grade classes found a ransom note and using their chromatography skills they figured out which teacher left it by testing many black markers. Finally, the 6th graders are practicing their financial literacy skills.
