GIFTED & TALENTED
Region 10's gifted and talented program is a separate cooperative focused on the individual academic and emotional needs of identified GT students
The State Plan for the Education of Gifted Students "Bites"
Did you know that according to our state plan, school districts need to have annual information meetings for parents about their GT programs and the identification procedures used to place students? Some districts host these meetings in the fall, when school starts, but other districts have them in spring, closer to their open testing dates. Do you know when your district hosts one? We recommend you attend one to help reinforce the message sent to parents regarding your district's ID and assessment procedures and GT services.
The state plan also says that there must be periodic updates from the GT program for the parents of identified students. This could come in the form of emails, newsletters, report cards, meetings, etc. We want to help support parents and work as a team to provide their students the most meaningful learning opportunities we can. How does your district communicate regularly with the parents of GT students?
